DIE by the Natural Curve : 1st Single (Larse Remix)

I Die is the first release from The Natural Curve on the Best’s Friends Music label.

When the track was posted on Soundcloud, as a demo a few years ago, it caught the ear of legendary producer Niles Rodgers who simply tweeted: “That’s an awesome song!”

The tune has been revamped and updated by the Natural Curve, with the addition of guitar, percussion, and a funky-assed bass line.

I Die features the extraordinary vocal talents of the mighty Polly Gibbons; a Ronnie Scott’s and Birdland Jazz Club regular, with fans on both sides of the Atlantic. She has collaborated with the Natural Curve on several tracks.

The Natural Curve is musician, songwriter, and producer Paul Cullen.

I Die is a typical Natural Curve track: a groovy collaboration with friends and musicians; a catchy ear-worm, packed with live performance, soul, funk, and character.

The Natural Curve repertoire is diverse, with downbeat, nujazz, d&b, house, and funk all featuring in the portfolio. The one thing that ties them all together: the groove. It has to be groovy. ‘All my best friends are bass players…’

The Natural Curve said: “Disco never died. It’s a musical perennial. There is always space for a new ‘classic’ and I Die is exactly that; slipping into the essential wedding DJ set and setting the dance floor on fire.

PREMIERE:  Luke Delite & Michelle Weeks - Give Me Your Love

Casbah 73’s ‘To Be Free’ and ‘Doing Our Own Thing’ had a fantastic response when released on a 12”, at the end of 2019. It received wide support from people in the know like Red Greg, Danny Krivit, Folamour, Soul Clap, Kenny Dope and many others. The first pressing quickly sold out and the tracks were sounding strong on discerning dancefloors until, well, “The Thing” hit and everything stopped.

Despite this, the record has continued to grow by word of mouth, and so we thought it would be wonderful to have a 7” version with an edit or even a remix of the jazzy funky disco banger ‘Doing Our Own Thing’. No one better than Dimitri from Paris for the job, one of the DJs who happened to tell us he loved the track. His two-part edit of ‘Doing Our Own Thing’ is a bomb that will make people dance for years to come.

The original track features a phenomenal line-up of musicians, including strings, brass, percussion, vocals and whatnot. While preparing the stems for Dimitri to remix, Oli was surprised by the incredible amount of material he had from those recording sessions. He discovered some wicked takes that didn’t make it into the original mix and used this opportunity to create two new versions of ‘To Be Free’, both of which retain the organic groove of the original while adding new elements and a decisive turn towards the dancefloor.

Together with Dimitri’s remixes, these two tracks make up a digital EP that is a must-have for fans of organic disco grooves with a housey attitude.

Previously featured in our Disco Juice column as one of the Essential Disco releases for May we are very pleased today to premier the Art of Tones Remix of Bruce Leroys & Helóra's 'Tempo'.

Landing on brand new label Aureum their debut single is a huge statement about the quality and future direction of the label. In Bruce Leroy's (Aureum A&amp;R) words "We believe that the first EP of a label should be emblematic in several dimensions, it should demonstrate the values and artistic vision of its members unequivocally. Ours are equity, musicality and the relentless pursuit of technical and artistic excellence."

Safe to say that we agree whole-heartedly and their dubut single ticks all of those boxes and more. Art of Tones (@llorca) has been a long time Le Visiteur favourite and here he delivers a masterful remix. Deliciously funky Tempo is a 2023 boogie Masterclass. Featuring a sumptuous vocal from poet and singer Helóra Galhardo its a real landmark release which showcases yet again just what an incredible place Disco is in right now.

@late-nite-tuff-guy is one of the legends of the modern disco scene and indeed one of the artists who helped set the scene back in motion over the last 15 years. Having delivered a multitude of sure-fire edits over the years we always keep a keen eye out for his latest releases.

His latest outing see's him go to work on a previously unreleased Silk track Somethin' 'Bout the way which was recently rediscovered and dates back to their 70's heyday, so something of a holy grail release.

As you might expect from one of Philly International's finest this one is really special from the euphoric pianos to the immense vocal. The 1970's loss is definitely our gain in 2023. 

Released via the excellent @asandbees and as always with the label 50% of the profits from this release will be donated towards the British Beekeepers Association.
