Italian producer and DJ @da_lukas_tracks has a long pedigree in the music industry, cutting his teeth on the release front way back in the early 00's having success under a variety of monikers. 

Since then his music has gently morphed into his current Nu Disco sound for which he is known today and it continues to ebb and flow from disco edits through to completely original Nu disco gems. His latest release see's him land on @ghetto-disco-records with the Real Thing EP which was crafted using a live musicians. The warmth and depth of sound and the endless groove across the EP highlights this perfectly. 

Indeed soundwise the EP is Nu Disco fused with the funk of dancefloor Acid Jazz and it's the perfect antidote to the impending winter up here in the northern hemisphere. Our premier today is Free And Happy with it's ever so funky guitar and keys bouncing back and forwards perfectly across each other. This is a brilliant release for both label and artist showing just how dexterous a producer Da Lukas is. Nina Simone — Feeling Good (Hrdvsion Remix)

Gina X Performance (the group consisting primarily of Gina X on vocals and Zeus B. Held on production) were way ahead of their time. Their dark blend of synths, detached vocals and infectious grooves do not easily lend themselves to conventional categorization. Their "hit", No G.D.M, is a prime example. In an era of mostly meaningless lyrics (at least on the dance floor), Gina X were producing songs dedicated to Quentin Crisp, an early 20th century figure known for effeminate mannerisms, social critiques through his writing and one man theatre productions that would bring him to a wider audience later in his life. The song tittle, No G.D.M., was a reference to a Crisp quote in his book, the Naked Public Servant, that there was "no great dark man". If you want a deeper insight into that quote, you won't find it here.

All that aside, this track has such a groove you almost forget Gina is singing about lesbians and death, among other things. The edit slices up the original and stretches it out, reworking the vocals to lend the whole track a more dubby vibe and adding some slight percussion and sound manipulation. It also bumps the tempo up a bit to 118 from around 110. Enjoy!

'Do It Like That” is the result of the collaboration between Portuguese virtuosos Ramboiage and C4STRO and comes packed with a refreshing last-days-of-sunshine atmosphere. On the remix duty, none other than label mate 'Gus Paterson', with a splendid take on the track.

This is not Gus Paterson’s first rodeo on Citizens. His previous EPs, “Regole Di Terzi” and “Neritic”, turned the secretive London-based producer into one of the favourite artists of the acclaimed French label.

While Ramboiage & C4STRO’s original distils its magic through 122 BPM, on Gus’s hands “Do It Like That” now shines on delicious 116 and 119 beats per minute. Premiered here, the “Shake” interpretation comes with a more upbeat gait delivered by a frenzied concoction of piano and synth layers topped with frolic laser-like FXs.

From his studio retreat in the heart of the Norwegian forest, Raaja Bones astral projects to adistant paradise, glancing the frosty tips of Norwegian fir trees on his way to exotic locations.

Trading the Scandinavian fjord for a beach in Miami, Raaja finds a bounce in his step, moonwalking his way across groovy keys and shuffling beats through Boardwalks . A sonic palette echoing with the reverberations of bygone days, playing on a collective nostalgia, a Kodak moment turned gif, frozen on a telephone screen.

Hazy chords and playful melodies glisten against temperate rhythmical zones as they roll through the arrangement. Disembodied vocals float in a steamy fog above warm tones, as Raaja’s voice passes through the record like a spectral dream. A rusty vignette forms within crystalline tones as bold synthesizers are coerced into reluctant musical forms, ambling through cheery earworms and rousing rubber bass-lines.

Now Djing at Electrik Disko every fortnight, and throughout the summer we are in the outside courtyard area in The Commercial Bar Wrexham. Nice sound system and great location ..puurfect.
