In our winter issue you will find important winter updates about how to recycle right during the festive period, bin collections, how to book an appointment for our Household Waste and Recycling Centres and some advice from us and the Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service to help you stay safe this winter.

Our warm spaces network, one of the largest networks of its kind in the country, is going to be very important to many people over the winter so we're taking this opportunity to shine a light on three of our Warm Spaces in the borough and to highlight some of the advice/support that is available for families and individuals who may be struggling at this very challenging time.

We will be asking for your views in relation to our budget proposals for 2023/24 following our Cabinet meeting on 20 December so read more about our current position and we have an update on the leisure services review.

It's that time of year again when we ask you to nominate any individual or organisation, who has gone the extra mile for their local community, for a Gateshead Award and this year we have an exciting new category 'Tackling Climate Change'.

In this issue you will find important information about key announcements relating to the regeneration of Gateshead and the North East. You can read about £20m awarded to Gateshead from the Department of Levelling Up and over £11m from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund alongside the historic devolution deal for the North East.

Our budget for 2023/24 has been agreed and, although we will have £977 less to spend per resident, we will work hard with residents, partners and community groups to provide the best support we can to the people of Gateshead. You can read more about £168m which will be invested in council homes over the next five years and about improvements to our housing repairs service.

Your opinions are very important to us so we are continuing to seek views, from those who have not already responded, about out leisure service and we would like your feedback on our Council News magazine.

In this issue we also shine a spotlight on some of the great work taking place across the borough to help tackle climate change and we're asking everyone to think about how they can make small changes to their daily lifestyle, which collectively will help make a big difference to the environment.
