This week's guest is Sam Shelley, a DJ who immerses himself in Funk, Soul and Disco. I am a regular listener to his own show on NDC Radio, and I was blown away by his extensive repertoire of original tracks from the 70s, mixed in effortlessly with a few modern disco edits. His extensive BIO is below, and it's a pleasure to welcome him to the show

** BIO **
Sam Shelley is London based Music Producer & DJ focusing mainly on the Disco, Funk & Soul genres. He has loved music from a very young age and his first musical interaction in life was with the dance genre, as a child growing up he was influenced by his Mum’s Disco collection. She’s was a Disco girl back in its late 70s heyday going to many of the great London night spots and even once going to the famous Studio 54. His late Dad passed down his love for the Funk & Jazz-funk side of things, his Dads collection included people like Donald Byrd and Curtis Mayfield.

He loves playing tracks from the Disco, Boogie, Funk, Jazz-funk, Brit-funk & Soul genres, his favourite artists include people like Chic, (featuring Nile Rodgers a very big hero of his and a real inspiration who has influenced a lot of the sounds you hear in his productions today) Earth, Wind & Fire and Donald Byrd.

Sam started playing around with production in 2011 and had his first official release 5 years later in 2016. Within those 5 years he also got into DJing and has his first gig in 2015 at Proud Camden. Since then he has played many venues across London including Cafe 1001, Lightbox, The Scotch Of St James, Egg and the Ministry Of Sound.

Last year he got to play in Amsterdam with his NDC Radio family for the amazing Amsterdam Dance Event which is an electronic music conference and festival held annually in mid-October. 

in December 2020 he joined the amazing team at NDC Radio and now hosts his own weekly show called Groove Nation every Sunday.

Richard Earnshaw & Derrick McKenzie (iCulture Takeover) - Spin City, Ep 257

The Black Light Disco rocketed back onto the myhouseradio.fm airwaves last Monday with another dose of double trouble hitting you between the ears!

This week, our residents Goz & Esteban were abseiling down the south side of BLD Towers to gain access to the Sound Lab Mezzanine, where they dished out the audio goodies for the two hour duration. 

First up is Goz, who has tracks from Pookie Knights, Fray Bentos, Charly Angelz, Hotmood and the Silver Rider to name but a few. For the second hour, Esteban will be serving up hot plates from the likes of Corrado Alunni, Da Lukas, Serge Funk and Phazed Groove amongst others.

Sam’s set from St Mary's Chambers, Rossendale/Rowtenstall in North West, UK. This marks the 4th time Sam has been support DJ for Craig Charles Funk & Soul show on warm up DJ duties. 

All tracks are mixed and beat matched from start to finish, beginning at 100BPM and gently increasing to around 120BPM with a reset in the middle. 

The set includes a mixture of soul, funk and disco genres including originals, remixes and modern alongside some of Sam’s own edits.
