14 Aug 25 Hopeful Outlook

I thought that today’s #MusicalMinute should attempt to convey the weight of history.  Not only are we remembering the 80th anniversaries of VJ Day and the end of WWII, we are, hopefully, beginning the process of stepping back from the brink of another chapter of catastrophic global conflict.  It is a day that calls for gravitas.  What do you think?

Today’s #MusicalMinute is a busy track with lots going on.  The main melody is an inversion of an earlier one, and it is struggling to be heard amongst all the clutter and artefacts of previous tracks.  However, if this was a commentary of current events, what elements do you think it should have?  What do you think?

In the Information Age data is an object that can be used to create multiple realities, each vying for dominance.  Some data points are ignored and some amplified, and in this way narratives are developed and reinforced.  Today’s #MusicalMinute alludes to a lot of these ideas but the results can sound confusing.  What do you think?

17 Aug 25 Clattering Chatter

There seems to be a lot of ‘playing catch up’ at the moment.  However, I find it really interesting to see how fast things can move when absolutely necessary.  August can be a pivotal month when the course for the rest of the year is set — it can also be a month of rest!  August 2025 could fall into the former category.  What do you think?

18 Aug 25 Frantic Flight

Today’s #MusicalMinute marks my first attempt at combining two pitch class sets — 8-6 and 6-15, which combined gives us PCS 9-1.  Funnily, I hadn’t thought of combining sets before, but then, ultimately that is what these tracks are all about — the evolution of an idea and adventures in sound and imagination.  What do you think?

19 Aug 25 Crazy Dance

Today’s #MusicalMinute is a confusing polymelodic collage of ideas.  However, it also alludes to the calculations that very expensive computers have to make to predict the weather.  Apparently, there is a 0% chance of precipitation today.  The roof of our conservatory has been removed and water is falling from the sky.  What do you think?

20 Aug 25 Confused Collage

Today is the fifth #MusicalMinute featuring PCS 6-z40 this month.  Eagle eared listeners will notice that I like to allude to previous occurrences by recycling melodies, motifs and rhythms.  This month continues to focus on experimentation with a view to creating a much longer work next year.  However, feeling remains paramount.  What do you think?

It cannot be denied that the global economy is undergoing a massive change at the moment.  It is fascinating to observe what is currently deemed valuable and how this judgement changes over time.  For me, these #MusicalMinutes represent the most precious commodity anyone and everyone has, the creative manifestation of a life.  What do you think?
