"Exile" is a fixed media work in which both musique concrète and electronic synthesis are digitally manipulated using Logic Pro X. The piece begins using entirely synthesized elements and gradually shifts to end with recorded sound.

Exile

"Three Daughters" for solo violin is a piece that explores different percussive techniques and effects created with the right hand which are juxtaposed with each other and with conventional techniques. The manner and speed at which sound decays is also an important element of this work. The inspiration for this piece comes from the story of Siddhārtha Gautama, the Buddha, specifically the events preceding his enlightenment in Bodh Gaya.

"Mezzanine" for solo piano is a piece that explores the resonant properties of the instrument, the space between musical gestures, and the way that sound decays in that interim.

"Dread Vector" was written for the Quasar Saxophone Quartet (@quasar-saxophone) and was premiered by them on March 7th, 2017 in Barness Recital Hall at the University of South Florida. 

The piece was inspired by the practice of contemplating death which is a frequent subject in the writings of Greek and Roman philosophers such as Plato or Seneca. I have found that while my initial and surface way of relating to death is often filled with fear and apprehension once those emotions are befriended they lead to a joy not often felt in common hours.

Dread Vector

"Preta" for high brass and violin is a study in the sonic possibilities of the instruments when played in unconventional ways. The title is a Sanskrit word meaning “hungry ghost” which describes a supernatural being that suffers from unquenchable hunger and thirst.

Premiered on April, 17th 2017 in Barness Recital Hall at the University of South Florida.

Preta

"Passageways" for clarinet, euphonium, and percussion is a series of related musical passages inspired by experiences I have had with meditative and mindful states of mind. Part of this practice is the attempt to disconnect sounds from subjective meaning and to hear them solely as auditory objects. My hope is that this piece will encourage a listening experience not defined by narrative or directional structure and create space for an acceptance and openness to what is occurring in the Now whatever that may entail.
