Bashundhara Group, originally established in 1987 as East-West Property Development (Pvt) Ltd, has grown to become one of Bangladesh's most prominent business conglomerates. The group first made its mark in the real estate industry, catering to Dhaka's increasing demand for housing by providing affordable, high-quality living solutions. This initial success helped build a strong foundation of trust and set the stage for further diversification.

With a mission statement of "For the People, For the Country," Bashundhara Group expanded its interests into manufacturing and trading in the early 1990s. The group's foray into these industries included the production of cement, paper, and tissue and the distribution of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), all noted for their quality and reliability.

In the early 2000s, Bashundhara Group reached a significant milestone by publicly listing Meghna Cement Mills Limited on the Dhaka Stock Exchange and Chittagong Stock Exchange. This move provided the group with the capital needed for further growth. It allowed the general public to become stakeholders in one of Bangladesh's leading cement producers, enhancing its reputation and financial health.

The group continued to excel in real estate with the development of Bashundhara City Development Ltd. (BCDL), a significant shopping mall and recreational center in Dhaka. This project highlighted Bashundhara's ability to innovate and adapt to changing market dynamics by providing a multi-purpose facility that combines retail, leisure, and entertainment.

In 2009, Bashundhara Group diversified into the media sector by establishing East West Media Group Ltd. This subsidiary now manages several high-profile media outlets, including the newspapers "Kaler Kantho" and "Bangladesh Pratidin," the "Daily Sun," and the online portal "banglanews24.com." It also launched News24, a top-tier news channel; T Sports, Bangladesh’s first dedicated sports channel; and Radio Capital, an FM station catering to diverse tastes.

Furthermore, through Bashundhara Food & Beverage Industries Ltd., the group has significantly contributed to the toiletries, paper, LPG, oil, gas, and food industries, reinforcing its role in bolstering national industrial and food security.

The group has been recognized with numerous awards, including multiple "Best Brand" accolades for its tissue and LPG products. In 2023, several of its products were awarded "Superbrands" status.

The Bashundhara Foundation demonstrates the group's commitment to philanthropy, supporting various social initiatives in education, healthcare, disaster relief, and sustainable development. The foundation notably aids tea workers in Bangladesh, equipping them with the necessary skills and resources for self-sufficiency.
