Entre los organismos presentes en la naturaleza que emiten luz propia existe un fenómeno conocido como "mareas rojas luminiscentes" o "bioluminiscencia del plancton”. En algunas costas del Caribe se encuentran microorganismos unicelulares que emiten una luz azul-verde cuando son perturbados mecánicamente, como cuando el agua se agita o cuando los tocas. Ocurre en muy específicas circunstancias, cuando la noche es realmente oscura y las condiciones de visibilidad son buenas. Estas luces aparecen en forma de pequeños puntos de luz en movimiento alrededor de las manos y pies de los bañistas, o en la cresta de las olas formando haces de mayor tamaño.

 

Esta imagen inspiró el título de la pieza, enmarcada dentro de un ciclo de obras de la autora caracterizado por el trabajo alrededor de la luz y el movimiento. En este caso se emulan en cierta manera esos destellos que aparecen dentro de una masa oscura de sonido, así como la noción de observar un mismo material bajo luces muy distintas.

Metronomics is a collective experiment which tried to be a modest homage to Ligeti's "Poème Symphonique" for 100 metronomes... We were not such a crowd playing at CSMA Hall on May the 5th 2016, but I am sure everyone had a great time being part of this collaborative ensemble.

Metronomics

"Piccolo inventario degli insetti" (2017)
for Ensemble and Electronics

Scored for four instruments and electronics, Piccolo inventario degli insetti finds its roots in my interest and fascination for mechanisms and how the unaltered perfection of the mechanical processes try to imitate the perishable and complex imperfection of organic ones.
In this sense, I conceived the work as a dialectic between the two worlds, the organic one identified with the “human performers” and the mechanical one identified in the electronics; then I set them into motion and I let them interact driving the piece to a situation in which the electronics becomes more and more organic and the instruments remain trapped in alienating gears.
The metaphor of the insects came up in my mind in totally natural and automatic way: the sound world that this piece builds bar after bar is like a soundscape of a microscopic nature, with all his internal complexity, as well as the electronics is made up of numerous internal feedback chains, as a kind of mechanical entomology inside the hidden world of the computer that comes up and faces the acoustic world of the ensemble.
