Hailing from Victoria on Canada's west coast, Freya embarked on her DJ journey in 2000. She taught herself to play vinyl on turntables after being deeply inspired by witnessing Sasha and Digweed live. With a natural musical ear and deft ability on the decks, she quickly propelled herself to recognition, earning bookings at massive raves, intimate parties, and securing several club residencies. Notably, she had the opportunity to open for international DJs Anthony Pappa, Peace Division, and Dubfire from DeepDish.

Freya's musical style is characterized by its melodic and thoughtful approach, focusing on progressive house, melodic house, and organic house. Her sets create a captivating soundtrack for life, taking listeners on a profound musical journey of the mind and soul. Lately, she has been rediscovering her passion for Tech House, Nu Disco Deep House, Techno and Indie Dance, effortlessly weaving tracks that will undoubtedly ignite the dance floor and get people moving to the groove.

Rootstrap is a multi-instrumentalist, DJ, poet, producer + composer based out of Victoria, BC, whose performances + compositions incorporate live instruments with DJ decks, and straddle many genres including spoken word poetry, psy bass, deep dubstep, folktronica/folkstep, halftime/trap/downtempo/drum + bass, and organic house, weaving them into cohesive long-form spontaneous compositional journeys.

About the name: "rootstrap" rhymes with bootstrap, but it's different because music doesn't come from nothing; every song has ancestors, and they are all connected to each other, like how the mycelium network links tree roots under the soil, all tied together somehow.  So, this is deep organic grassroots bass, exploring the lineage of sounds; it's like a dance party in the family crypt.

Deep, dark, minimal sounds for the later hours.
