Sær

The song “Kauna’’ is based on the 6th rune of the Elder Futhark. Kauna, Kaunan, Kaun or Kenaz stands for the K sound. This rune can have multiple meanings. Kaun in Old Norse means wound or ulcer. It is also known as Kenaz (meaning torch) based on its Anglo-Saxon name. The deeper meaning of this rune symbolises warmth, enlightening and knowledge. Associated with ritual fires when celebrating the winter and summer solstice. Kauna, the great purifier, the torch and the wildfire, burns away the decay in the heart. The ulcer burns the body in sickness and Fire cleanses the soul, and lights the way.

The song ‘’Ginnungagap’’ tells the story of the creation of all living matter. Before the beginning there was only a big yawning void called Ginnungagap. In the northern part of Ginnungagap lays the cold Nilfheim and in the south the heat of Muspelheim. The process of life began when Nilfheim and Muspelheim met in the middle of Ginnungagap.

Ginnungagap

Visund ('Bison') was Olav Haraldsson's ship built c. 1020. It was decorated with a g ilded visundhode (a bison's head with horns) on the stem and fought many battles. Listen to one of Visunds voyages as it claims the throne of one of the most feared ships in whole scandinavia to that time.
