Geechi The Goblin, born Johnathan Depina is a Cape Verdean/American music artist from Boston, Ma. The name "Goblin" is in reference to his October 31st (Halloween) birthday. "Geechi" was a term commonly used in the New England area to degrade Cape Verdeans and other people who were deeply rooted in their native cultures. Being the son of two immigrant parents, he naturally adopted the ways of his folks. "The insults never could phase me because I'm so proud of being who I am." As a matter of fact, he owned it. Literally. In 2018 he started "Geechi Amerika" (www.geechiamerika.com) a fashion & accessory brand inspired by his own custom designs. "I was always ok doing Me and not being like everyone else. If people thought it was cool or not, I did things my way."

Hi I’m Chase Kessler and I’m from Colorado Springs and I like making music and I’m a quiet person but I make good music

The youngest of 12, Jesse’s love and passion for music began early, when his father would regularly sing the Bible to him. At the mere age of six, influenced by his father, Jesse began to sing in the choir at his home church in Arkansas. Later, Jesse became a skilled pianist, percussionist, and computer music technician.

Shortly before his mother passed away, she exhorted him, “Whatever you do; do your music, because it’s in your heart.” So when at the young age of 16 Jesse moved to Missouri to live with an older sibling, his passion and love for music continued to develop with emotion and use of the beautiful sounds of nature to create his own unique, signature sound.

In his final year of high school, Jesse moved to Minnesota- living independently, playing the tuba in the high school band, and also marching as a drum major.

Jesse continued on to attend Golden Valley Lutheran College (GVLC), where he played football and sang and played in the concert band. Flip Sanders, then head basketball coach at GVLC and later head coach for the Minnesota Timberwolves, was so impressed with Jesse’s vocal  ability that he once asked him to sing the National Anthem during a basketball tournament.

Following college, Jesse began to write more prolifically and joined forces with a young nephew as they created their own in-home studio in the basement of a family friend. They worked together to write and record several upbeat musical compositions.

The tragic death of Jesse’s infant son added spiritual depth and increased emotion to his song-writing abilities. His passion for music, however, had to take a back seat to the demands of marriage, family life, and a dominating work schedule. 

Now, at yet another crossroads in life, the passion and love for music, for songwriting, and recording is once again at the forefront. Jesse has a desire to share his inspirational, gospel, R &B, and pop, flavored music with the world. His hope is that his life and his musical journey will be widely communicated thus creating inspiration and encouragement to others on their own journey.
