The Way You Feel

Every time I get a new machine in the studio, it leads me to a new track. After getting my new Ecler 4.0 Dj-mixer, this last Xmas, it felt necessary to spend some time mixing and get more familiar with it. I eventually recorded this mix, live and loud at Karl Marx Boulevard Studios, using mostly vinyl and a few cds. It was Xmas and the end of an amazing intense year (2013), so I took the chance to put all of it together. Even though it is not meant to be "massi's best of 2013 mix", it does feature some of the tracks that have been essential to me over this past year and/or that I have enjoyed playing out. Yet it goes beyond that, in the sense that I have simply been playing all what came to my mind without any boundaries or special concepts behind. As such, it is more about the joy of mixing records. It is also a little present to all of you, my beloved followers out there. I thank you for your wonderful support and wish you all an amazing 2014! Love and see you on the dance-floors!!! M.

Ich atme im Rhythmus der Musik

A mix of new, old and not so new or old, techno and house. The concept of Techno these days can be quite removed from that of old, so this mix mainly highlights the classic techno sound - that which I love. No white noise or plinkity digital effects and no bullshit. I recorded the mix live in ableton, but with no timestretching, effects or key matching. the tracks that are matched in key were done so purely by coincidence. Enjoy...

┋  Matthias Kunze (Klangextase / Hamburg) presents Afterhour Sounds Podcast Nr.92┋

Unsere Nummer 92 kommt diese Woche von einem langjährigen Wegbegleiter und Unterstützer vieler Künstler von nah und fern. 
Die Rede ist von Matthias Kunze, der uns alle mit seinen zahlreichen Sets und Podcast schon häufiger die Stunden versüßt hat. Seit einer gefühlten Ewigkeit ist er auch Mitglied bei dem bekannten Kasseler Podcast/Blog Projekt „Klangextase“, das für uns mit zu den besten Podcast-Reihen zählt. Was 2008 als wöchentlicher Radiostream mit Freunden startete, entwickelte sich über die Jahre hinweg zu einer international bekannten und vor allem unabhängigen Musikplattform. 

Matthias’ Sound besticht durch eine besondere Mischung aus treibenden Beats, melodiösen Klängen, behutsam eingeflochtenen Vocals und vor allem jeder Menge Bass. Für Matthias ist Spaß das höchste Gut beim Auflegen: „Wenn du selbst glücklich bist mit deiner Musik und dem Drumherum, dann wird es auch dein Publikum sein!“ Nach erfolgreichen Gigs in Wien (Prater Sauna), Berlin (Ritter Butzke) und Kassel (Unten, Club ARM, etc.) spielt Matthias nun vor allem in seiner Wahlheimat Hamburg in Clubs (z.B. Kurhotel, Baalsaal) und auf Open Airs.

Für uns hat sich Matthias ganz schön ins Zeug gelegt und eine wundervolle Stunde erstellt, die so was von zu unserer Reihe passt. Deep, träumerisch und treibend. Vielen Dank Matthias.

Heute sind wir mit „snowy city“ im verschneiten Berlin gelandet. Lars Neubert ist ja bei sound(ge)cloud kein Unbekannter mehr … irgendwie ist er in meiner Wolke der Mann für die spontanen Sets. Nach dem Year-Mix 2015 und dem Easter-Egg Special hab ich diesmal das Vergnügen M.I.L.L.O & Lars zu präsentieren … sozusagen inkl. der bessern Hälfte. Die Beiden harmonieren nicht nur im normalen Leben sehr gut … auch in der Musik haben sie irgendwann festgestellt das Zusammenwirken zu einer ausgezeichneten Mischung führt. Auf der einen Seite die Perfektion und auf der anderen doch eher das Bauchgefühl … führt wie ich finde zu einem unglaublich tollen Stimmungsbogen. Bereits das erste Set „Gloomy Walk“ hat nicht nur mich stark begeistert … spätestens mit dem Podcast für „Kaffee und Kuchen bei Heinz“ war ich diesem Duo verfallen ;-)

Ihr neuestes Werk „snowy city“ ist etwas düster, melancholisch, sphärisch und unverschämt deep. Danke Camilla und Lars das ich dieses tolle Stück Musik präsentieren darf. Alle Hörern da draußen eine schöne verschneite Zeit.

It's been amazing to hear Adham's unique slant on Funk realize into such a cool exploration of the palette. SP invited this snazzy tastemaker to tell a tale through original material and special, personal cuts of Jazz, Funk, and Disco that frame his unique penchant for creating that deep spacey vibe. If you are a dedicated electronic music fan, there really is no need to give you too much of an introduction into the world of 16 Bit Lolitas. For those that are uninitiated, welcome to a whole new world. 

The Dutch duo of Ariaan Olieroock and Peter Kriek have been around since the early 00's, releasing the sort of productions which always reserved space in many revered DJ bags. They received worldwide recognition with tracks like ‘Murder Weapon’, ‘Nobody Seems To Care’, ‘Sedna’ and remixes for the likes of Sander Kleinenberg and Armin van Buuren.

Where many early-00's prog producers faded away, 16BL endured its heyday to stay as relevant today as they were a decade ago. Lately, the 16 Bit Lolitas have been focusing some of that energy into their side project, Cubicolor; a project with Tim Digby-Bell which of late has been gaining some serious momentum, even seeing them receive some attention outside of the club scene (they 'are currently working hard on the new Cubicolor album').

For their Balance excursion the Dutch boys have kept to form with a beautifully crafted selection of tracks and remixes from artists like Patrice Baumel, Trikk, Audiofly, Adriatique and more. And needless to say, 16BL have delivered a masterful mix.

Normalerweise ist Lars (als Lars Neubert) musikalisch alleine unterwegs, doch sind seit letztem Sommer einige Podcasts mit M.I.L.L.O, die auch sonst an seiner Seite steht, entstanden. Die Musik der Beiden ist in der Regel eher düster, melancholisch und deep. Diesmal jedoch, passend zur Jahreszeit, haben sie ein eher sommerlich grooviges Set zusammengestellt, wobei die Zwei der langsameren Geschwindigkeit treu bleiben.
