Kayak Break es el resultado de la experiencia de Barrio Lindo durante su residencia arrtistica invitado por el VAR Program en Sausalito, California y también representa el primer lanzamiento de un nuevo colectivo global: Shika Shika.

Esta experiencia resultó la primera vez que Agustín Rivaldo a.k.a. Barrio Lindo fusionó su oficio de constructor de instrumentos musicales junto a su trabajo de productor, utilizando exclusivamente su propia librería de audio, registrando sonidos de instrumentos propios y capturas durante la construcción.

Este EP compuesto por cuatro tracks representa de alguna forma el movimiento lento del flotar sobre el agua en la quietud de Sausalito, el entorno natural y la influencia del Ambient e IDM en este nuevo trabajo de Barrio Lindo explorando cada vez un sonido más orgánico.

VAR Program es una residencia flotante donde cuatro artistas de distintos continentes trabajan en procesos propios y colectivos durante su estadía.
Desde 1940 el SS Vallejo ha sido un espacio de encuentro de artistas y escritores como Jean Varda, Roberto Matta, Jack Kerouac, Henry Miller y Alan Watts.

Kayak Break es presentado como primer lanzamiento del colectivo Shika Shika, una plataforma sin patrón que busca unir el trabajo de distintos artistas electrónicos del mundo que exploran el sonido orgánico y originario impulsando colaboraciones de músicos y productores a distancia.

Kaya Break is the result of Barrio Lindo’s two month art residency at the VAR programme in Sausalito, California. It also represents the first release from the new global collective Shika Shika.

This collection of tracks represents the first time that Argentine Agustin Rivaldo a.k.a. Barrio Lindo fused his skill as a musical instrument maker with his electronic music production. The EP is compiled exclusively from Barrio Lindo’s own sound library, recorded from his home instruments and captured during their construction.

The four track EP’s reflective, experimental tone, traversing IDM, ambient music and Latin America influencers is an interpretation of its creative context. The quiet floating studio at Sausalito and its natural surroundings resonate and represent Barrio Lindo continued explorations between the organic and the electronic.

The VAR Program is a floating residency program that invites four artists from different continents to explore collectively and individually their creative process. Since 1940 the SS Vallejo has been a space for collaboration between artists and writers including Jean Varda, Roberto Matta, Jack Kerouac, Henry Miller and Alan Watts.

Kayak Break is the first release from the new global collective Shika Shika, a record label without owners that aims to unite producers from around the world exploring the line between organic and electronic music. The platform aims to foster global collaboration between artists, designers, videographers, product designers and creative minds across continents.

For Quilombo do Futuro Remixed, Maga Bo called upon the talents of a select team of top notch producers haling from several different continents.  The original tracks united the organic subtleties of the Afro-Brazilian rhythms coco, maculelê, samba, jongo and capoeira with the punchy, powerful, electronic based sounds of dub, raga, hip hop and dubstep.  Batucada and bass, mids, treble.  TUDO.  The remixes take the tracks even further….

Frikstailers deliver a monster digital cumbia remix.  Uproot Andy comes with a crunk, bullerengue samba reggae.  Subatomic Sound System brings a hypnotic dub rework.  Stereotyp's remix is a spooky, frantic burst of barefoot energy.  El Remolon takes baile funk into trance cumbia dub territory.  Sabo brings a sunny, uplifting vibe for the dance floor.  Dr. Das injects noise and grit with a deep, deep bassline.  Process Rebel treats coco to warm distortion and spacious reverb.  Dub Gabriel offsets hard, one-drop dub and samba with political commentary on immigration.  Digitaldubs drops a raw, dirty bass and rapid-fire funk programming.  DJ Dolores' new project Stank, comes with a frantic, dubbed out samba reggae.  Poirier goes deep on his tranced out jongo rework.  Batida connects the dots between samba and kuduro with vocals straight from Angolan MC Sacerdote.  Leo Justi adds a hard electro-funk edge.  Copia Doble Systema vs. Dixon transform ragga cumbia into hypnotic electronic tumbao.  Buguinha drops a pair of smoky live dub mixes while Chancha Via Circuito offers a smooth trip hop take on coco.

A quilombo was an autonomous, fugitive settlement founded by ex-slaves and others in colonial brazil.  The Quilombo do Futuro is more than a possible physical space.  It is a potential world-wide agglomeration of cultural resistance.  After centuries of wealth generated by an economy built on slavery (and the subsequent post-abolition adaptations), the Quilombo do Futuro is a break from this legacy.  Fortified by an international community based on plurality, inclusive democracy and direct communication, cultural resistance is paramount in creating a sustainable, healthy existence in the face of world-wide corporate domination.  

Born in the United States and based in Rio de Janeiro since 1999, Maga Bo has collaborated with Mulatu Astatke, Issa Bagayogo, Bollywood star Shilpa Rao, BaianaSystem as well as releasing critically acclaimed remixes for Poirier, Luisa Maita, Filastine, Blick Bassy and Bomba Estéreo.  His music and remixes have been released on Tru-Thoughts, Ninja Tune, Cumbancha, Dutty Artz, World Connection and many others.  Among his many international tours, he has performed at the Sydney Festival, WOMEX, Club Transmediale and Mundial.
