Born and raised in Boston, pianist Adam Janjigian began studying music privately at the age of five, jazz at ten, and continued private study until graduating in 2006 from the University of Maryland with a bachelor's degree in music with a jazz emphasis. 

After graduating from school, Adam spent two years living and working in New York City as a researcher and a flying trapeze instructor. Despite working two jobs, he still found time to fit in a few performances at different venues, including The Metropolitan Room with Grammy-nominated drummer/percussionist Bobby Sanabria, and The Bitter End with R&B/soul artist Mary C. 

In 2008, Adam was offered the opportunity to come and work for Carnival Corporation's Cunard Line. After having such a good time while working for Carnival Cruise Lines each summer from 2003-05, he was quick to accept the offer, and in September, he flew from New York to Venice to work on cruise ship Queen Victoria. He remained on board for nearly ten months as a member of the ship's ballroom dance orchestra, before leaving Cunard and taking his talents to Princess Cruises, where he was the house-band pianist on five different ships before returning to Boston in 2011.

For the past three years, Adam has performed across New England at many great venues including the Beehive, Beât Hotel, Top of the Hub, Acton Jazz Cafe, Fenway Park, and the Boston Harbor Hotel.  

Working at sea brought Adam [literally] all the way around the world, and by the time he finished his time on cruise ships, he had travelled to over 60 countries all across the globe, including Greenland, Australia, and India. His favorite destinations include Barcelona, Alaska, Thailand, Hong Kong, and the Caribbean. 

In addition to his time spent on ships and in Boston, Adam has had the opportunity to perform at venues all around the world; his first appearance at a major jazz club was in 1997 when at age 13, Adam was invited to sit in at the Green Dolphin in Cape Town, South Africa. After playing, Adam was invited back to perform the following evening at the club and was interviewed both on the radio and by the Sunday Times, South Africa's only nationally-sold newspaper. Years later, as a college student, Adam performed frequently at different jazz clubs in the Washington, D.C. area, including Twins Jazz, Twins Lounge, HR-57, and Utopia, and he also brought his own group, the Adam Janjigian Quartet, to perform at the 2004 and 2005 East Coast Jazz Festivals in Rockville, Maryland.

Regarded upon his 2006 arrival as a promising beatmaker looming in the shadows of J Dilla, Madlib, waterfalls and Dabrye, Steven Ellison -- known as Flying Lotus -- nullified all comparisons only two years later with Los Angeles. On that album, his first of five for the Warp label, Ellison distilled a uniquely crisp, spasmodic, and heady sound with elements of hip-hop, avant-garde jazz, IDM, and dubstep. While the abovementioned producers fueled Ellison, he had also been excited as a youngster by the '90s West Coast rap classics that combined programming and live instrumentation. His sound continued to develop as he put his own twist on the approach, recording with a crop of jazz musicians including the indispensable likes of bassist Thundercat and strings master Miguel Atwood-Ferguson. This process began with the turbulent 2010 set Cosmogramma and peaked in terms of acclaim in 2014 with You're Dead!, which crashed the Top 20 of the Billboard 200 and spawned the Kendrick Lamar collaboration "Never Catch Me," a Grammy nominee for Best Dance Recording. Ellison devoted a few years to various forms of film work and the operation of his revered Brainfeeder label, and returned in 2019 with Flamagra, his second consecutive album to top Billboard's Dance/Electronic chart.
