Hidden in Michigan's industrial greyness is a constellation of producers of unrivalled talent. Apollo Brown is one of these masters of production, with an exceptional discography punctuated by prestigious collaborations. Ras Kass, Che Noir, Ghostface Killah... many artists have enriched their albums with the Detroit producer's masterful compositions. Paying homage to Brazilian funk & boogie, Captain Planet’s “O Xangô” reimagines a samba rock classic from Trio Mocotó, famed for backing Jorge Ben. Stripping away most of the original, he injects heavy bass, disco drums, stabs, and wild synths, creating a euphoric modern boogie banger. The lyrics call to Yoruba deities, with the chorus invoking Xangô—symbol of power, justice, thunder, and lightning.

As for our Raccoon—last we saw, they were enjoying summer with Mango the Toucan on a floating island. Now, as the leaves fall, with Mango still around, the island has turned into a garden, complete with carrots and Jazz the Bunny. Together, the three partake in deep conversations, cultivating, and connecting with nature. The colors are shifting, the vibes are mellowing, and a new chapter in the Chillhop world begins. I learned today that Daniel Carey, aka EOM, has passed away.
 
It might come as a surprise, but EOM is the reason I'm here today and that you can listen to my music. He convinced me to begin making music after introducing me to an entirely new side to music with his videos on music production. Yes, artists like J Dilla and Madlib have a much clearer, stronger influence on my sound, but none of that would be there were in not for E introducing me to a different side of music. 

I'm here in a foreign country following my dreams and making more music than I ever have in my life before because of him. 

I wish I told him that.

Rest in peace E. We'll miss you.
