Seeking New Sonic Frontiers: Genish's 'El Infierno Verde' EP
In November 2022, producer Ithazk Genish embarked on his first tour of Mexico, discovering a wealth of new musical influences. The result is 'El Infierno Verde,' a six-track EP that fuses Genish's signature contemporary body music with South American rhythms and instrumentation.
For the release, Genish collaborated with Mexican musician José Olán Graniel and his band, intertwining propulsive drum machine patterns with live percussion and field recordings of indigenous instruments from Mexico's northern coastline. The hybrid sonic approach marries the mechanical and the organic, the modern and the ancient.
'El Infierno Verde' explores new frontiers of rhythm and texture, as Genish and his collaborators create hypnotic, trance-inducing grooves that transcend borders. With each visceral, high-energy track, the EP transports the listener into the lush underworld evoked by its Spanish title 'The Green Hell.'
By seamlessly melding traditional music with his own avant-garde electronics, Genish recontextualizes the indigenous sounds of Mexico through a futuristic lens. 'El Infierno Verde' is a daring artistic statement that charts new territories in global bass music.
