Natura Oculta is a work by the irrepressible mutli-disciplinary artist Rubén Patiño, channeled through his Lag Os alias. It investigates  the potential for the recreation of imaginary landscapes by the use of sound. Patino set out not to create a collection of musical pieces or a sonic narrative, but rather a kind of oniric and surreal space in which an  ensemble of audible objects (or rather, creatures) could move, prosper and interact. 
Patiño primarily focus on the wetland, a typology of environment that becomes a metaphor of the eerie, the amorphous and the unknown. It is not a matter or imitating or replicating nature, tho, rather of using many different sound design techniques to establish the possibility for a different kind of nature to sprawl out: an uncanny one, at once familiar and alien. 
The aim of the work is to create fictional narratives that blur the boundaries between the natural and the artificial, the actual and the virtual, the physical and the imaginary. Immersing in this work means exploring a space that exists as much in the physical manifestations of its many weird voices as in the interaction between the sound and the listener’s subconscious.

Natura Oculta will manifest in two forms. First as a digital album released by Haunter Records and presented in public via a nocturnal soundwalk. Then alongisde a complementary virtual environment, an experential videogame developed in collaboration with Andrea Belosi.

As the first katharsis release of 2022, we present you the debut EP “Distance” by Rome-based artist chantssss. This release frames a deep introspection for the listener by exhibiting a granular sound collage based mainly on aquatic sounds but also on solid objects broken up to tiny pieces until they transform into a liquid semi-percussive state.

Throughout the four tracks of the EP, we are enveloped by a transforming layer of fluid noise, that momentarily resembles the slithering of a snake, which is also graphicly represented by the artist alias. This is no coincidence, as the artist is connected to this theme by their experience of being bitten by a viper while capturing aquatic field recordings in the mountains.

On “Distance”, chantssss premieres his artistic expression by employing intertwining multi-sensory atmospheres of nature combined with generative synthesis and field recordings. The single “Your Next Online Healing” will be premiered on the 3rd of February, a week before the full EP releases on February 10th.

THOUGHTS ON MANIFOLDS (GEN050) by BLANK WALL SEASON (@blankws) is a feather light, mixed-material showroom of synthetic objects, constantly rolling, constricting, zooming, bubbling, evoking some vast space. Impossibly thin, transparent foil, crisp, ice cold fluids, metal on rubber impacts etching elaborate diagrams and schemes into ambiguous, lush techno-reminiscent chords. The sound arrangement here is akin to a granular breeze, like an alien meteorology, a particle simulation turning into a textural primordial soup. Constantly in acceleration or deceleration, the listener knows every vast saturated pad is seconds away from the rush of a blast-off, almost intolerable G-forces, images flashing in front of one's eyes, bullet-like hard pans. These operations are like a valve being turned, the sudden pressure release causing a stream of some noble gas being set free, or opening a shutter suddenly providing a flicker of light highlighting the contours of some cavernous lost zone.

In the album, we hear one sample altering and folding into a wide spectrum of sonic reflections while hazy textures intersect with each other to create a crafted assemblage. Amongst this heap of sounds, you'll find some that you can't get through and realize that they are the ones that matter as it's all a journey within manifolds.

/ Kaan Işık aka Blank Wall Season
Blank Wall Season is an experimental electronic music project created by Kaan Işık. He is a composer and sound editor based in Istanbul who explores the relationship between new aesthetics and aspects of hearing in his sonic journey. After studying cinema and sonic arts, he founds his vision in music from eclectic perspectives that deepen his productions. Blank Wall Season blends acousmatic elements with complex textures. He has worked with renowned art galleries and clubs in Istanbul, Ankara, and Berlin by curating event series and expanding his network in art.
