Producer, DJ, fervent music aficionado, and record collector Steve Mill has honed a distinctive sound that resonates across dancefloors. Born in Greece and dividing his time between Berlin, London, and Thessaloniki, Steve Mill weaves his rich cultural heritage into evocative melodies and infectious rhythms.

The God Given EP released 12th May on Dirt Crew Recordings showcases Steve Mill’s musical talent and hints at the enormous music collection of which he is able to dip into. It’s the follow up to his great label debut “Love Attack EP” from last year.

The title track, God Given featuring Bongani Mehlomakhulu comes out of the traps as a fully formed Balearic stomper. Dreamy ice-cream-van marimbas enter the fray and deep tribal bass completes the audioscape, setting the scene perfectly for Bongani’s vocals. Thought-provoking lyrics from the viewpoint of someone born without a silver spoon in their mouth but still with the upbeat optimism to succeed in life. “Positive mindset brings a change of flavour / Overcoming challenges helps you stay centred.” Wise words indeed from this poolside masterpiece.

Steve Mill explains: Working with Bongani was super easy and uncomplicated. I first heard his work on a Shur-I-Kan mix. I immediately loved his voice and powerful lyrics. Kid Fonque introduced us, and we started chatting. When I sent him the instrumental, I asked him to write lyrics about the struggle of an unprivileged life. A few days later, God Given was ready.

Next up is Copenhagen Ride - a deep house drumline washed in broad watercolour strokes of warm, laid-back synths. Think of a hazy dusk; daytime giving way to the first twinkling lights of the city as afternoon becomes evening.

Steve Mill gives us the lowdown: This is a tribute track to a holiday with one of my best friends in Copenhagen a few years ago. We’d blast some amazing deep house tunes in the car and travel around the city and the suburbs. The warm sounds inspired this super deep track that came out so easily, having that picture in my mind. The minimal perfection of the city would always inspire me.

Dye the Bip takes us from dusk and onto the dancefloor. This track has an infectiously catchy hook line that will stay in your head way after you return home from the club.

Steve Mill recalls: Dye The Bip came to me one morning. The lead was inspired by the Krystal Klear sound: Easy in the ear, yet catchy and meaningful. The pads and the arpeggio based bassline followed. Some big reverbs on the snare drum compliment the whole package of the track. I had a tune that you can hum and that was my goal from the start!

We are very pleased to welcome Mathew Ferness to our little label family. Mathew hails from a small town in Quebec province, the French side of Canada. He started listening to music at a young age, always ahead on the latest music and always an outcast to the other people of is town. Inspired by 90s electronic music he started producing around 2010, some kind of Intelligent House Music. He already released on labels such as BeatXChangers, Fina Records, Closer to Truth and Lisztomania just to name a few.

“High Expectations” is not just a next release for Mathew, It’s something special, almost an album kinda, or a studio EP if you want to call it that. One of those albums that you have to listen to all the way thru....

A journey through deep and jazzy house territory is what you can expect when you click play on this one. Opening with the orchestral interlude that is “High Expectations” you get drawn in a mood and setting that reminds us of 90s electronic artists like Dj Shadow or the early Ninja Tune and Mo Wax output. “She’s too Misty” takes on those same classical feeling and is transporting it into a proper dance floor track with deep subby bass lines and a spaced-out arrangement.

“The Ego” and “In Dreams” are true stormers of tracks and stand out for us personally on this release, just loving the deep bass in “The Ego”! and those vocal stabs in the middle part of “In Dreams”, So special! we can already see both tracks tear up any dancefloor! High Expectations on these for sure!

“Covelant Bond” is the second interlude on this mini album and guides us with it’s warm setting towards a blissful closing track called “I Might Have Been Wrong”. This one is a great mix of modern House sounds a la Laurence Guy or Leon Vynhall. Taking that deep and organic sound to the floor. Epic!

When expectations are too high, deceptions happen, hearts are broken, and dreams are crushed. Songs about having a crush on a beautiful misty foreign online fan, that of course did not work out. Battling my anxiety, digging into family past, having weird dreams, understanding myself more, and working on meeting my so-called, high expectations.

George Jackson is a new upcoming producer from London, UK. Not to be mistaken with his Chicago homonymous. He's only had a handful of releases out on Fogbank, and Amatox. Then he met up with Dj Passion, who gave him some assistance/tutoring to improve his sound and arrangement skills. They got in touch and this release is the result. An incredibly smooth original with the lovely voice of Gene Roberson, and an extra Dj Passion remix with more Oomph, and garage house influences. Both mixes have been hammered for months by myself @khillaudio and have always turned heads. From bars to clubs, people wanted to find out the ID. It's got that magic ;-)
