Rooted in the Nordic darkness of metal, industrial and classical music as well as sound system culture, Gruth is an electroacoustic music project of Juha Puuperä. Drawing influence from various different musical cultures, practices and genres, the sound of Gruth has evolved from forward-thinking techno, ritual ambient and doom-industrial to long-form "sound paintings" where improvised long takes and field recordings are layered and slowly evolving. Collaboration with other artists and musicians is seen as essential.

So far, the sound of Gruth has reached events such as Berlin Atonal and Insomnia Festival in Norway; a host of clubs in Berlin, including Tresor Berlin and Griessmühle; and more recently, nightclubs of São Paulo, Brazil: Trackers and ZIG – as well as raves in Salvador da Bahia. Gruth has been featured in line-ups alongside artists the likes of Juan Atkins, Samuel Kerridge, Rrose, Dasha Rush and ATEQ.

Support from the international scene has been strong, as 2018 saw the release of a 12” vinyl EP Futile Demise and a limited edition cassette album Laments on Tormenta Electrica Records, a label based in São Paulo, Brazil. September 2018 the second 12” vinyl EP Befallen was released. This featured new original tracks and collaborations with Kamikaze Space Programme, Ikola and KuJo.

The second cassette album Somnum Exterreri was released in November 2020 by Lisbon-based URUBU Tapes, a label focused on releasing experimental electronics, noise and other sound/visual objects. October 2022 saw the release of a self-titled vinyl LP All That We See or Seem on Miasmah Recordings. This album is a collaboration with Ellen Southern and Johanna Puuperä. In 2024, Palermo-based Temporize Records released a vinyl LP, Scenes From, that features material written in Brazil between 2018 and 2021. The latest LP release, Noemata, came out on a beautiful limited edition cassette on Midira Records.

Genys is a Lithuanian born DJ/Producer, Sound Designer and content manager at Bitwig, currently living in Berlin. 
Founder of the electronic music label - Lowvibe.
Creating sound design and music for different audio-visual projects, played live in bands, theatre, different collaborations, produced two albums for Lithuanian reggae fusion artist Shidlas, in 1995-1996 Genys was an MC at the Lithuanian hiphop band “UZI”.
DJ-ing various genres since 1997. DJ sets of Genys vary from chill, jazz fusion, neo soul, groovy, wonky beats, house, reggae, dub to hiphop, bass, electro-funk, r'n'b, electronica, afrobeat, world fusion and beyond.
