King’s Water is developing the Global River Basins Connects project in partnership with our PLuS Alliance colleagues from Arizona State University and University of New South Wales.

The aim of this project is to build interdisciplinary expertise on sustainability challenges in global river basins for enhanced scientific understanding and policy impact for river basin governance.  Activities are two fold, focusing on comparative analysis of the sustainability of seven global river basins and on research-led education.  

This project is led by Dr Naho Mirumachi with King’s Water members Dr Daanish Mustafa, Dr Mark Mulligan, Dr Emma Tebbs, Dr Mike Chadwick and Dr Rob Francis.

PLuS Alliance:  Global River Basins Connections project

This podcast was made in 2019 by students taking Professor Green's course on Poverty and Welfare in London 1830 to 1930. It tells the story of the matchgirls strike of 1888 at the Bryant and May factory in Bow, East London.  The story includes excerpts from original sources made at the time that described conditions and wages in the factory together with living conditions in the local area.

What does it mean to follow the science? This is a question that has gained a lot of traction recently as governments have instigated unprecedented action to contain the spread of COVID-19, all the time informed by scientific advice. Yet this is a problem that climate change has dealt with for decades; science is contested, sometimes contradictory, and produced by individuals with their own set of values. Using examples from the UK, India and United States, James Porter, Anshu Ogra and George Adamson from the Department of Geography reflect on what it means to ‘follow the science’ in the context of climate hazards and climate change. Host Tamsin Edwards also offers her own reflections on the process of generating science advice through her experience in the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
