A believer in the transformative power of techno, local hero P.TRAFFORD has been tripping the light fantastic as an underground organizer, DJ and performer with events for Forbidden Planet (Official) (also a label) and under the banner Psychic Driving, occupying secret and uncommon spaces around Montréal for several years now. He debuted for MUTEK with a live set of his mutlispeed, hallucinatory analog tracks at our 2014 Nuit Blanche. He comes to the festival proper this year, anchoring a Saturday night subterranean special at the MAC with PATRICIA, Gunnar Haslam, Svengalisghost and ANTHONY NAPLES that is specially priced at $20 to encourage total participation!

P.TRAFFORD will be performing live at MUTEK 2015 as part of the NOCTURNE MUTEK 4 program on Saturday, May 30 at Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal (MAC).

01 Outsiderwater - Entrance Of The Into Unknown

Taipei Taiwan's brand new label 禁 (JIN) makes a strong impression with compilation like debut. Kick starting with Initials B.B. On A1 - A Trancy house classic layered with floating melody reminiscent of traveling through the wilderness with breeze, while Tokyo's one n only Gonno's A2 remix puts 909 into full force. Stomping kick drum makes this cut a lethal weapon for late night utopia on any dance floors.  

B1 takes a drastic turn to the other spectrum of Taipei underground.  Up & coming local talent Lujiachi sucks you to the dim light of Taipei darkness, night-crawling the way with Industrial drum pattern, spooky East Asian horn and swaggy bassline that's as unpredictable and addictive as there is. B2 & B3 sees Stockholms wizard Samo DJ remixes - showcasing his trademark weirdo slow motion electro / dubby stamps strictly made out of MPC.

VCF is Ricky Tinez's latest project and one he holds close to his heart where he explores sound recordings of his own with digital synthesis and samples from TV, adverts, and whatever else. His releases are few and far between but always high quality as he prefers to focus on getting each one absolutely perfect.

Up first is 'J05', a deep and dubby house groove that's humid and atmospheric, with steamy pads and vinyl crackle all aging it to perfection. Next comes 'E06', a superbly vibe-fuelled wedge of well swung house music. The raw drums are embellished with warm and authentic chords while razor sharp hi hats and funky little guitar riffs add vital detail.


Captain Supernova, a fictional Astronaut created by composer and arranger Eric Borders, then features on 'Breadkrumz.' This one has jazzy key playing tumbling down over the perfectly smooth drum loops and meaning bass. It's classic house with a contemporary air of cool that works on both head and heel.

Remixing is Cromie, the Peach, Amadeus and Freerange associate who has a musical house sound that is all his own. Here he flips 'E06' into a busy and bristling track with sci-fi synths and streaming pads, noodling jazz riffs and a punchy beat that oozes funk.

PREMIERE: VCF - J05 [LOWLA002]

On “Proximity Departed,” the title track, at one point we can hear the commands being given from one element of the military industrial complex to another. That’s the key. The threat hangs over this island. It’s a normal day at work, except no one can go outside for an hour, because a fighter jet is going to practice landing on a highway just in case the landing strips are all bombed.
