I debated not posting this at all, as it is far from polished at this point, but I've had a lot of people asking why I never post any saxophone recordings.  This started as a simple looped idea with a quartet of saxophones, and just kept getting bigger.  Rather than just sticking with live looping practice, I decided to use the idea as the seed of a recording experiment.  I opted to forego the looper pedal and record each track separately.  With the exception of the drum track - I don't own a drum set, and wouldn't be adept enough at drumming if I did - everything on this recording was played by me on real instruments: 5-string electric bass; digital piano; electric guitar; bari, tenor, alto, and soprano saxes; Eb marching mellophone; and trumpet.  Even the hand claps are real multi-track overdubs rather than samples.  I have listed it as a "Work In Progress" because the background parts are still rough - it's pretty busy - and of course I'll never be satisfied with the solo part - this was just a rough take, after all.  At some point, I'll likely remix or rerecord the whole thing.  I'm also considering posting the background without the solo (as it obscures the arrangement).  I recommend listening with good quality headphones to hear the mix properly.  Comments are always welcome.

Geordie Haley is a composer, improviser, educator and guitarist. Contributing to the creative music scenes of Fredericton NB, Toronto ONT, and now Halifax NS, Geordie has been presenting songs, rhythm based compositions and improvised music for over 25 years. 
Since returning to the Maritimes Geordie has been a featured artist in concert and festival programs by creative music presenters Upstream Music, Suddenly Listen, Canadian Music Center, The Motion Ensemble, Jazz East, Scotia Festival, Shattering the Silence Festival, and the Harvest Jazz Festival.

THRENODIES, a work for 4 musicians and 3 dancers based on Haley’s original compositions in collaboration with dancer/choreographer Susanne Chui was featured a during the 2012 Halifax Jazz Festival.

As an educator Geordie continues his practice at the NSCC Waterfront Campus Music Arts Department, teaching private lessons and instructing ensembles.
