in a decade of earth's not so distant future, technology and superhuman mutation are out of control. this is why the extremely specialized SCC exists; they keep the common people safe from rampant superhuman activity or supertech...or so the authorities say.

hera is a captain of the SCC. she knows there's no truth to the protection spiel she gives civilians in the name of persecuting the ever-dwindling free superhuman population, especially as the "Indomitable" - the single greatest potential danger to anyone and everything on earth - runs free. more than that, he actually lives enshrined in a citadel in the sky, far above even the topmost reaches of the socioeconomically stratified city hera has come to loathe, only reachable by a special sort of supertech elevator that can graze the upper atmosphere.

while at first disillusioned, day after dreary day, in the undercity station she keeps watch in...hera's life changes suddenly as she finds herself imbued with a certain legacy mutation during a resuscitation attempt. realizing too late the victim she'd made an effort to save was a superhuman, she is targeted by her former squadrons and forced to flee and find answers.

but hera's search might take her farther - much, much higher - and yet, closer to home - than she might have initially imagined...
