Universities across the country have received new guidance from Universities UK, urging them to reach out to the family and friends of students if they have significant concerns regarding their mental health. 

The aim is to address the issue of student suicide rates, but the new guidance eliminates the requirement for staff to obtain explicit consent from students before contacting their trusted contacts. George Cooke has more.

The change made by University UK today is aiming to curb rates of suicide in young people. 

George Cooke spoke to Barney, who's a trainee mental health nurse at the UEA. He had this to say:

Daniel Lingham, 71, was sentenced for stealing from a Nightjar nest, adding to his collection of thousands of rare bird eggs.

Lingham, from Newton St Faith, violated a court order in June 2023, that stopped him entering Holt Lowes nature reserve.

He was caught on camera stealing from a nest. Police then searched his home, where they found his collection.
