Jos Lok is a Dj and producer from Groningen, the Netherlands, his style is a blend of minimalistic sounds and House music. His tracks can be described as a colorful story that progresses into a strong groove. His music has been released on labels such as Archipel, Daydream, Perceive, CEASURA and Vivus Records.

Some artists operate like architects, carefully drawing up blueprints before placing the first brick. Others, like Philadelphia’s Sweater, move more like alchemists—turning sweat, soul, and musical memories into something raw yet refined, something lush yet unflinchingly grounded. His productions are like dimly lit street corners where Jazz-trained fingers meet the restless pulse of underground club culture. There’s warmth in his grooves, but also a sharp edge, a knowing nod to a city that has raised some of the most forward-thinking musicians across HipHop, Soul, and Electronic Music alike.

Having spent his formative years steeped in the Jazz and R&B-soaked history of Philly, and later cutting his teeth at the legendary Electric Lady Studios in New York, Sweater crafts music that breathes with lived experience. His beats carry the ghost of smoky basement jam sessions, his basslines throb with the after-hours energy of a city that never quite sleeps, and his melodies often feel like they’ve been lifted straight from a half-remembered dream. With releases on labels like Pearled Records, Secret Society Chile, and the ever-patient Blkmarket Music (where his much-anticipated "Contact in the Zone EP" is finally about to surface), his sound moves fluidly between Breakbeat, Techno, and Deep, Hypnotic House.

But Sweater is more than just a producer shaping the musical landscape—he's an essential thread in the very fabric of Philly’s underground. Whether behind the bar slinging cocktails at a packed-out spot during an Eagles playoff run, curating gems at Impressions Philly record shop, or dropping unreleased heaters in a DJ set, he’s constantly immersed in music, living and breathing the culture that fuels his craft. His upcoming ventures include launching Sauna Records, a label where his vault of unreleased material will finally see the light of day, and continuing to sharpen his signature style—emotive, groove-driven, and always with a touch of grit.

In this interview, Sweater sits down with Torture the Artist to discuss Philly’s unsung electronic scene, the winding path that led him to underground dance music, his approach to production, and why the best tool a producer can have might just be the delete button. London-based Bengoa has grown to become a household name in the underground
House scene on his home turf and beyond, offering up a steady stream of raw,
sophisticated records on his B2 imprint while also welcoming the likes of Brawther,
Larry Heard, UC Beatz, DJ Rocca and Lex among other internationally respected
artists onto its roster. Here we see the story continue with some fresh material, the
lead track welcomes MIMI x FY, fellow resident DJ’s from Moni club in Mykonos.
Bengoa featuring MIMI x FY’s title-track ‘I Won’t Love You’ opens the EP, a hypnotic
slice of dub house driven by bubbling stab sequences, crisp drums, breathy spoken
word vocal lines and fluttering resonant synth licks. ‘Bibi’s Funk’ follows and. Leans
further into dub territory courtesy of soft, spiralling stabs, oscillating noise sweeps
and swinging drums, all underpinned by a weight sub bass groove.
‘Listen’ then kicks off the B-Side with robust 808 drums, squelchy acid tones,
tension building sweeps and heavily delayed chords and vocal chops. Lastly ‘Exiles’
concludes the release, taking a deep dive into ethereal pad textures, delayed brass
melodies, jazzy keys, haunting synth melodies and raw, reduced drums.

In the latest installment from Moto Music, label head Dan Piu presents his latest project Time Synthesis to the world, and the music contained within represents yet another compelling step forward for one of dance music’s most revered and celebrated voices…

The work of Dan Piu aka Georgios Boutopoulos, whether it be under his numerous aliases or via the helming of Moto Music and No Acting Vibes, has become synonymous with deeply emotive, beautifully produced analog dance music. His records have appeared at some of the key turning points for dance music, and have consistently embraced a multitude of musical styles and tones that have allowed his bountiful sound to continually evolve. Whether its warm deep house, captivating techno, through to exciting bleep and electro, there is little that hasn’t been covered in his musical universe - and it is not only this diversity of sound but how he has been able to thread these styles together so cohesively that makes his discography such a celebrated one.

Never one to shy away from introducing new aliases as a means of introducing new dynamics and motifs to expanded musical universes, ‘Remember the Future’ is the debut outing from Time Synthesis, a collaborative project together with the legendary Berlin DJ Estimulo, widely known for his countless, now highly iconic DJ mixes (EstimuloShow) as well as his numerous sets in and beyond Berlin. Their debut EP as a piece of music, it is as quintessential as it is fresh.

‘Strobes’ gets things going, and the manner in which this track builds, grows, and flourishes is a sight to behold. A glassy, emotive chord line sets the tone atop an ever-evolving rhythm section that leans heavily into techno sensibilities with flurries of hats and snares. ‘Pools’ arrives soon after, and this number keeps the pace aflowin’. Set deep within the swirling, filtered drums and sweeping arpeggio keys, the track blossoms with far-reaching chords coming to the fore. Powerful and precise in its energy, and subtle in its inventiveness, this is a slice of techno to absorb and swim within.

On the flip, the record firmly enters into deep house territories, with two versions of the track ‘Wayne’ - with Dan’s Raw Mix up first. The drums carry on with a carefree saunter, which provides the perfect basis for the key and bass lines to align with the momentum. A wondrous piano chord progression adds a particular sun-kissed flavour, and then comes an array of classy melodic touches that add depth and personality. Finally, Estimulo introduces the ‘Ambient Pass’ version of the track. Taking things down a little bit, the drums remain crisp but the melodic elements are reworked, with high-end pads and simmering metallic tones creating a sense of intrigue, before expanding around the midway mark into something very glorious indeed.

WPP stands for Witness Protection Program — a labour of love and a lab for incubating lovely music. Since 2021, it has operated as a space for artists who wish to remain anonymous and release music they might not be able to share otherwise. A Workshop for Phantom Producers, where the focus stays on sound, not identity.

Alien Bells revolves around a synthesized metallic motif that climbs and dips in pitch, generating a steady sense of motion through unfamiliar terrain. The track feels suspended in low gravity, with each percussive chime echoing like a coded transmission from elsewhere. Drawing from dub, krautrock, new disco, and acid, without sounding quite like any of these, it’s a mind-altering belter built for adventurous dancefloors.

Seu mais recente trabalho é a compilação do Paradise, com produções dos DJs brasileiros que recebe na disputada pista do clube D-Edge, nas manhãs de domingo. Plugado em diversos acontecimentos da cena, principalmente nos melhores, George mixou o CD com 20 faixas, revelando e apontando artistas promissores, como Philip Braunstein, Clik Box, Tee, Mondino e Pedro Angeli, e talentos já consagrados, como Mau Mau, Murphy, Snoop, Renato Lopes, que são amigos de longa data e que cederam as faixas.
