Influential German artist DJ T. continues to work under his new alias Mathami with a second superb EP on his newly formed Pura Danza label. Both vital tracks reflect his love for the spirit of Africa and the continent's diverse music and cultures.

Ecstatic Dance is one of many forms of Conscious Dance but has become by far the most popular over the past 20 years. Since DJ T. discovered these events in the Sacred Valley of Peru a couple of years ago, he has been shifting his activities towards this fast growing ceremonial dance culture. As a skilled music selector and curator he is channeling all his experience to find his very own way of creating the musical journey for these events. The transition of the past years has finally led him to launch a new music label, Pura Danza, and a new artist persona, Mathami, to shine a light on the vast cosmos of music that gets played at Ecstatic Dances and beyond.

This second Mathami EP opens with the superb title track featuring infectious drums and percussion that build towards an epic high. Uplifting bells and marimba join a choir of tribal vocals that lead you to a euphoric peak before you sink back down into the pure, irresistible and funky groove. The excellent 'Entasim' carries the energy of a ritual dance of male warriors that dance themselves into a trance. It's a journey into hypnotic percussion, layered with ethereal chimes and bells and powerful vocals from Kenya's Massai tribe, recorded during one of their famous formation and jump dances.

Arany is another fascinating and authentic window into the beguiling world of Ecstatic Dance and Pura Danza. ‘Arany’ will be available on streaming services from 29th October with the full release available on sale and streaming on 12th November.

PREMIERE : Mathami - Entasim

Buenos Aires-based platform Maleza reaches the fifth instalment of its respected and finely curated compilation. “En la Superficie, Vol. 05” brings together an interesting selection of artists who delivered insightful contributions to the release: Adamant, DJ Braver (SXDNS288), Gabriel Ferreira, Deep Hale, and Fernanda Arrau (SXDNS158) feat. Elias Deepman, each one of them contributing with their own characteristic sonorities and representing exactly the kind of soundscape the label intends to provide: Deep and intense, groovy and vibrant, trippy and emotive.

The track we chose to premiere comes from the creative and restless mind of Tomas Panisse aka Adamant. “Mackie” is a melodic and atmospheric Breakbeat House cut with a particular Ravey/Balearic mood provided by an ethereal and beautiful pad, nervous synth layers, and a bassline with attitude. A theme of simple construction but extremely effective that pairs perfectly both with sandy beaches and dirty basements.

Giovanni Isgrò aka Maple Juice is a Dj, producer and sound engineer based in Milan.
His musical inspirations, in a nutshell, stat from artists like Prokofiev and Satie, pass through all the black culture of the Delta, dive deep into the sound of the 70’s (especially '74 - '77 dirty grooves, sometimes '78), and end up with the latest dances of Chicago and Detroit.
His djsets range from Soul, Undergound Disco and Boogie Funk to Hip Hop, Ghetto House and Footwork.
Lately he has been performing a bouncy live set with MPC and other gears. The production is a blend of sampled grooves, odd drum machines, and different styles of synths.

'Diarabi EP' is the 3rd release on Unfound Sounds, a new UK based imprint founded by JOBE.  The label was born throughout lockdown, providing JOBE with a platform to release his own music.  Unconstrained by genre, the label focuses on releasing music that is both timeless and forward thinking.  

The track premiere ‘Idle Moments’ is collaboration with JOBE’s lifelong friend Quirksmode.  Created primarily on modular synths, ‘Idle Moments’ highlights the beauty in simplicity, utilising a single synth voice that weaves intricately over looping percussion, continuously evolving to create an uplifting, hypnotic groove.

The EP is due for release on 12th November, and features 4 other tracks from JOBE, ranging from deep house to electronica.

It's filled with great mixes and interviews with artists who breathe music through a multicultural yet electronic prism. And that's exactly what this mix is about. For the debut digital EP on Viscera Transmissions, Komodo spreads his wings and takes his signature low slung psychedelica to the stars, to reap destruction on extraterrestrial dancefloors across the cosmos.

Title track Mirror Claws begins an ember in the desert, slowly stoked by guitar chord stabs and eerie screeches towards a slow yet inevitable psychedelic inferno.

For Night Crawler, the guitar steps back into co-pilot role as the acid bass takes the saddle, spurring the squelch dragon off into the void with a crack of the 303 whip.

Next up is Vanquished Angst with a dubby desert rock workout. Blazing guitar solos tear across the sky like thunderbolts whilst the hypnotic bassline and guitar progression burn through the dunes.

On the flip, Jonny Rock re-dubs the dub with his Vanquished Angst Dragon Remix. No slightly questionable guitar metaphors here, instead, a mind melting whirlpool of spiraling percussion, vocal quips, bass throbs and pads form a completely bonkers but brilliant piece.

Last but certainly not least, Chez de Milo arms Night Crawler with some serious ordnance. After changing up the beat pattern with a breaksy kick, electro warheads are ago, clearing the way for the original 303 line to cruise through. Heavy!

International music group Sex Judas feat. Ricky returns to Optimo Music this November with a new album: Night Songs. The eight track LP draws inspiration from the night and features Malian percussionist Sidiki Camara, jazz clarinetist Andreas Røysum and noise rocker Linn Nystadnes. Making their own blend of disco, post punk and African music.

“It’s the return of Sex Judas feat. Ricky, this time as a six piece in fully fledged band mode. We’re here to take you on a journey through suburban psychedelia, forming our own brew of post punk, disco and electronic, as well as traditional music from Mali. Night Songs is a meditation on the night time. The excess, the dreams, the highs and lows of night time activity.” - Sex Judas feat. Ricky.

Black Cat In A Black Room begins proceedings, taking the form of a psychedelic six-minute offering packed full of tribal drums and desert-like percussion. A Man Without Purpose comes next with its African-inspired vocal, before Hab Mich Lieb soon arrives.

The six-minute cut is hypnotic, trippy and relaxing all in one, as is Slow Down feat. Linn Nystadnes. Taking on more of a funk-rock feel, there’s plenty of groove in the guitar-laced bassline, whilst in Cold Clementine Sex Judas tells the sad tale of rave casualty over a dark and funky groove.

We’re taken down a spiritual path on The Light You Saw Was Not For Real, as Andreas Røysum’s clarinet solos sit underneath shamanic vocal offerings that open neatly into The Night Within The Night. A slow-burning cut, riffs and hats serenade us before When You Wake Up Everything Will Be Fine brings proceedings to a close. Dream-like chords wrap us in a warm and glowing hue, with the harp-like sounds from Sidiki’s Ngoni, leaving us in a starry-eyed state to finish.

The calming nature of the album is a nod to the band’s influences: they were inspired by the great meditative records of the past, setting off on a musical trip that saw them record the whole release at legendary Norwegian studio Athletic Sound. This happened during lockdown and whilst the LP was never meant to be a comment on the pandemic, there remains a brooding intensity to each track because of it.

Sex Judas feat. Ricky originally began life as the solo project of Tore Gjedrem (from electronic duo Ost & Kjex), but has since grown into a steady six piece involving the talents of Sidiki Camara (djembe / ngoni / balafon), Ivar Winther (guitar / keys), Tracee Meyn (vocals), Tore Brevik (drums / percussion) and Kristian Edvardsen (bass). Centre stage is also illustrator and comic artist Sindre Goksøyr, this time portraying each character as they paddle their way into the sunset and uncharted territories.

Malian-born, Norwegian-based percussionist Sidiki Camara has played a pivotal role in promoting Night Songs to world music circles. Having lived in Norway since 2006, he has helped bring West African rhythms into the country’s wider jazz scene.

When she struggled to define her place in the world; when existential questions continuously circled her mind; she came here and sat in silence. The marbled room was as high as it was vast. The space was decorated with regal statues and innate sculptures, while beautiful paintings adorned the walls from floor to ceiling. In the centre a single bench offered a view of the entire space, and it was here she would sit for hours, focusing on the present, not the future. 

As well as being one of the minds behind Lyon's Hard Fist Records, Tushen Raï has stamped his style on productions for Tom Tom Disco, The Magic Movement and Esthetique; solo, as a remixer and alongside musical partner (and fellow Hard Fist co-founder) Cornelius Doctor. Now he's embarking on his first solo EP 'Drum Circles', a sonics meditation on 'an imagination weakened resulting from the cultural globalization.' A homage to diverse cultures, practices and belief systems, the trance-inducing tracks blend a melting pot of influences and sounds, motivated by curiosity and an open-minded approach.

The golden sun rose over the city igniting the streets with a hazy light which would warm the day. Looking out upon the glorious view he breathed a sigh. Soon the city would be buzzing with life and activity as travellers went busily to work. He on the other hand had no place to be, no place to go and was happy watching it all from his tall window overlooking it all. This was his East vision, a little elevated paradise in a metropolis of wild people and wild life. 

Bran are set to release a new split EP from a collection of artists including Uabos, Herzel, Metropolitan Soul Museum and Flute Power. The imprint describes itself as having an "aspiration is to create a distinctive contemporary musical language; where older and younger generations of artists, local talents and renewed international artists from the electronic music scene will contribute to the creative process."
