Orapendula In Ecuador (binaural/headphones)

An electric arc furnace running a "meltdown" process. Think of it as a giant arc welder. Three giant electrodes, each 8 feet tall and 1 foot across, create a continuous electrical arcing for melting and mixing ingredients used in industrial steel casting. The electrodes never touch the steel themselves, and it's the radiant heat of over 2400° F that melts the ingredients!
The furnace itself is 20 feet across and spits out tiny globs of melted steel throughout the process. Because of the danger, I could only come within 30 feet. Even at that distance, it's once of the loudest things I've ever recorded. With pads on both mics and the level on my 702 nearly all the way down, this still peaked around -9 when recording. Thank goodness for hearing protection!

(One critical listener calls this element "sublime.") Recorded late May, 2008. Skies were mostly clear; winds were light and variable; temp. was in the low 50s (F).

This dawn chorus was recorded at the ponds 150km from Moscow on April 26 2019. It features a lot of species including Black-headed Gull, Bittern, various ducks, Great Crested Grebe, Cranes, Snipe. Equipment: Nevaton VR Mic and Zaxcom Fusion, transcoded to binaural stereo with Dear VR Micro plugin.

Borneo Rainforest - Dawn - Gibbons

Night gently transitioning to day in the misty World Heritage Listed Gondwana rainforest amongst ancient Antarctic Beeches. On this January morning the subdued dawn light of the cloudy mountain top meant that the night shift of insects, cicadas and frogs continued well after the day shift begins at first light. For most of the year Eastern Yellow Robin leads the chorus but it is silent or absent on this morning. The frog calling is the "Pouched", "Marsupial" or "Hip-Pocket" frog, Assa darlingtonii, named for the brood pouches on the males, where the tadpoles travel to after hatching. (Thanks Jeremy).White-throated treecreeper is first followed at 4:30 by Alberts Lyrebird calling a little tentatively out of breeding season. Other species in this recording include Lewins Honeyeater, Brown Cuckoo Dove, Satin Bowerbird, Yellow-throated Scrubwren, White-Browed Scrubwren, King Parrot, Crimson Rosella, Bassian Thrush, Grey Shrike-thrush, Grey Fantail, Green Catbird, and the Eastern Whipbirds are feeding in pairs with an adult and a juvenile together. 
The recording begins 5 minutes before first light and continues till five minutes after dawn. Altitude 1140m ASL. Sennheiser MKH8020 in Iso-Binaural Stereo, SD702.
