Written specifically for an ambisonic, surround-sound concert hosted by Tuesdays Post at Iklectik, London. An immersive piece about the engines of vocal sounds and the articulators. ..vowels and consonants... We can only mean something if the sounds uttered make patterns that we recognise as aural symbols for doing, naming, describing, categorising and connecting. ... all the sounds in this piece are vocal.. apart from one long sample of a bass monochord (a wooden board you lay down on.. and someone plays 40 or so strings attached underneath.. all of the same pitch).. It's about meaning... some words pop through the clouds of vocal sound, all these words belong to 8 taglines... most of the rhythms are derived from the rhythm of these sentences, normal everyday sentences that make you think of a product because of the sheer amount of repetition .. disrobing the sentence of it's original sentiment.

Sunday night I performed an ambient set of vocals at a gathering near Wales, this is the ending as i only started recording over an hour into the set... enjoy!

I got out of the habit of playing for the sake of just ...playing, with my pedalboard... too many other distractions.. so here's an improvisation from last night, simple, short and sweet..

Aum Vajra Akshobhya Hum ...

Akshobhya is the embodiment of 'mirror knowledge' (Sanskrit: ādarśa-jñāna; refer Panchajnana). A knowledge of what is real, and what is illusion, or a mere reflection of actual reality. The mirror is mind itself - clear like the sky, empty yet luminous. Holding all the images of space and time, yet untouched by them. He represents the eternal mind, and the Vajra family is connected with reason and intellect. Its brilliance illuminates the darkness of ignorance, its sharpness cuts through confusion.
The Vajra family, to which Akshobhya belongs, is associated with the element of water. This is why the two colours of Vajra are blue or white. Bright white like sun reflecting off water, and blue, like the depths of the ocean. Even if the surface of the ocean is blown into crashing waves, the depths remain undisturbed, imperturbable. And though water may seem ethereal and weightless, in truth it is extremely heavy. Water flows into the lowest place and settles there. It carves through solid rock, but calmly, without violence. When frozen, it is hard, sharp, and clear like the intellect, but to reach its full potential, it must also be fluid and adaptable like a flowing river. These are all the essential qualities of Akshobhya.
Many wrathful tantric beings are represented as blue in colour because they embody the transmuted energy of hatred and aggression, into wisdom and enlightenment.

Clapping Music by Steve Reich has 12 beats. each derivation of the rhythm is just by shifting the start note of the next 12 notes each time, to the right. ie  the  first derivation starts on beat 1, the second on beat 2.

Such a fabulous little rhythm, creates such a great combination of variations. There's just the rhythm here, but with harmonies and rhythmic panning. and a 111hz bass tuning fork.

Originally performed for a 6 channel surround system. Minimal editing.
