Khutbah: Fear of Entering into Shirk

[09/05/2025] Advice from the Khulafā’ al-Rāshidūn - Khuṭbah by Abu Idrees Muhammad Khān حفظه الله. Khuṭbah at Masjid As-Sunnah An-Nabawiyyah, Aston, Birmingham, UK.

Some points discussed during this Khuṭbah:

The Qur’an and the Sunnah are built upon advice.

The farewell advice of the Prophet ﷺ to the Companions.

“I have left you upon that which is clear; its night is like its day…”

“Those who live long after me will see many differences, so hold onto my Sunnah and the Sunnah of the Rightly Guided Caliphs.”

Hold onto it with your molar teeth.

Hear and obey the rulers.

Advice of Abu Bakr as-Siddīq: “I have not abandoned anything from the actions of the Prophet ﷺ except that I acted upon it. Verily, I fear that if I leave any of his actions, I would deviate.”

Advice of ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb: “Take yourselves to account before you are called to account. Weigh your deeds and statements before they are weighed. Adorn yourselves with good deeds before the Great Day.”

Advice of ʿUthmān ibn ʿAffān: “O son of Ādam, the Angel of Death who has been appointed to take your soul has passed by you, focusing on others. It may be that he will now bypass them and focus on you. So be aware and ready for him. Do not be heedless of the Angel of Death, for he is not heedless of you!”

Advice of ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib: “O mankind! What I fear for you the most is that you will have long hopes and follow your desires…”

Be from the children of the Hereafter; do not be from the children of this world.

“Today is for action; tomorrow, there will be no actions.”

Advice from the Khulafa al Rashidun By Abu Idrees

Jumu'ah Khutbah 16/05/2025   Do you sincerely & truly desire to be safeguarded from the Hellfire and admitted into Paradise?

- Ḥadīth #9: Too Much Questioning [cont’d].
- Explanation of Shaykh al-‘Uthaymīn (رحمه الله).
- Carrying out the obligatory affairs according to one’s ability.
- Refutation of the Jabariyyah who claim that we have no freewill and are compelled to carry out actions.
- Using the example of ṣalāh to illustrate that an obligation is not lifted due to incapability. 
- Praiseworthy vs blameworthy questioning regarding whether a command of the Messenger ﷺ is obligatory or recommended.

- Al-Ḥāfiẓ Ibn Rajab (رحمه الله) on the types of questions that should not be asked, with examples. 
- Explanation of Shaykh ‘Abdul-Muḥsin.
- Six benefits derived from the ḥadīth. 
- Explanation of Shaykh Aḥmad an-Najmī (رحمه الله).
- That which brought the wrath of Allāh upon the previous nations.  
- “And, indeed We have sent Messengers before you (O Muḥammad ﷺ); of some of them We have related to you their story and of some We have not related to you their story…” [Sūrah Ghāfir 40:78]

- Benefits from the statement of Allāh, إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ يُسَٰرِعُونَ فِى ٱلْخَيْرَٰتِ وَيَدْعُونَنَا رَغَبًا وَرَهَبًا وَكَانُوا۟ لَنَا خَٰشِعِينَ “Verily, they used to hasten on to do good deeds, and they used to call on Us with hope and fear, and used to humble themselves before Us.” [Sūrah al-Anbiyā 21:90]
- Imām as-Sa’dī (رحمه الله) on how Allāh described the Prophets and Messengers in this āyah. 
- Reflecting upon the meaning of the terms al-Musāra’ah, al-Musābaqah, al-Munāfasah and al-Mubādarah, and examples of their usage in the Qur’ān and Sunnah.

- Understanding that trials and tribulations can come at any time and the opportunity to do good deeds can be removed very quickly.
- How a person can become a disbeliever and lose his īmān in a single day. 
- The point at which a person will not benefit from his īmān or acquire any further goodness. 
- An example of how the Prophet ﷺ hastened to good deeds. 
- The generosity of the Prophet ﷺ in Ramaḍān. 
- The example of Ibrāhīm and Ismā’īl (عليهما السلام) in hastening to the command of Allāh and submission to Him. 
- Mūsā’s (عليه السلام) hastening away from his people in order to be in isolation with his Lord. 
- Statements from Ibn ‘Abbās, ‘Alī b. Abī Ṭālib, ‘Uthmān b. ‘Affān (رضى الله عنهم), Abūl-‘Āliyah, ad-Dahhāk and others (رحمهم الله) regarding the meaning of وَسَارِعُوٓا۟ إِلَىٰ مَغْفِرَةٍ مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ “Race towards forgiveness from your Lord…” [Sūrah Āl ‘Imrān 3:133]
- The shining example of the lofty aspiration and firm determination of ‘Umayr b. al-Ḥammām al-Anṣārī (رضى الله عنه). 
- The fruits of having a lofty aspiration.
