The Third Pillar: A Continuation of the Breakdown of Surah Al-Fātihah

– ‘Iyyāka Na ‘budu’ - You Alone do we worship (meaning, We do not worship anyone except You).
– This is a covenant between the servant and his Lord that he will not worship anyone besides Him.
– ‘Wa iyyāka Nasta’een’ - And from You Alone do we seek assistance.
– This is a covenant between the servant and his Lord that he will not seek assistance in anyone besides Allah.
– ‘Ihdinas-Sirāt-al-Mustaqīm’ - Guide us to the straight path.
– Direct us, show us the way and keep us firm upon the path, which is Islām. It is also believed that it refers to the Messenger ﷺ  and likewise that it refers to the Qur’an. All of these meanings are true. What is meant by ‘Straight’ is that which has no deviations in it.

– Shaikh Abdul Muhsin’s Explanation
– ‘And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me’ Surah adh-Dhāriyāt 56
– A grammatical point is made in the Arabic language for ‘Iyyāka Na ‘budu’ - You Alone do we worship where it shows that the ‘worship’ is restricted only to Allah.
– The danger of seeking assistance from the Jinn or mankind or those that are not present.
– The permissibility of seeking aid from a person who is present and has the ability.
– ‘Iyyāka Na ‘budu’ - You Alone do we worship 
– This statement contains affirmation and negation - a mention of the Shahādah to explain
– The need for guidance to the straight path is greater than all of their needs.
– This need for guidance is greater than the need for food and drink.
– Guidance to the straight path will bring success in this life and the hereafter.
– Being guided to the straight path contains:
* Truth and Guidance.
* The ability to follow the straight path.
* To remain firm upon the straight path.
* To increase guidance.
– The evidence for this is: ‘And for those who are guided, He increases them in guidance and gives them Taqwa’. Surah Muhammad 17.
– Sirāt - Straight Path - Can mean Islām, the Meseenger ﷺ or the Qur’an.
– Interpretations of the Salaf.
– An example using an ayah with the word ‘Hasanah’.
– ‘Ihdinas-Sirāt-al-Mustaqīm’ - Guide us to the straight path.
– The ones who Allah has bestowed his favours upon are four:
* The Prophets
* The Truthful
* The Martyrs
* The Pious
– The highest level is for the Prophets.
– The Truthful; who is an individual that is very strong in his Eamān, so much so that it repels any doubts.
– The Martyr; the soul is the greatest thing a person possesses, the martyr gives this up to make Islam uppermost.
– The importance of the correct intentions.
– The Pious; are the ones that correct their actions in accordance to the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ.
– The pious split into 3 categories:
1. The ones who carry out the obligations and draw close to Allah with the supererogatory actions, and abandon the unlawful and distance the doubtful matters and increase in the recommended actions.
2. The ones who only carry out the obligatory acts. They stay away from the Haram but may indulge in the disliked matters. Both of the above 2 will enter Jannah, by the permission of Allah.
3. The ones who have wronged themselves, they are believers, and are people of Tawheed. However, they fall Short with the obligatory commands and fall into some haram. This category falls under the threat of the punishment of the grave and likewise they are under the threat of punishment in the Hellfire. They will eventually enter paradise, by the permission of Allah as they were Muwwahhideen.
– A question regarding Sujūd as-Sahw - the prostration for forgetfulness.
– A question regarding covering the feet for a woman in the prayer.
– A question regarding holding the rulers and leaders to be disbelievers.
– A question regarding seeking aid and assistance from the Jinn and other impermissible matters.
– A question regarding the Aqīqah.
