As a result of the popularity of the documentary, the album climbed surprisingly high for a soundtrack album in many national album charts. In Sweden, it reached #3 in early 2013 when the Academy Award nomination was announced, and had been in the charts for 26 weeks by the time it received the award in February 2013; in Denmark it reached #18; and in New Zealand it reached #9. The album was released by Light In The Attic / Legacy records. All tracks were remastered by Dave Cooley of Elysian Masters.

1) Tell us a bit about yourself and your record collection.

I'm a teacher, poet, MC and DJ from Jerusalem, 33 years of age. I have been collecting records of mostly black music for over 12 years now. My record collection is mainly about Funk (and a lot of P-Funk), Disco, Soul, Doo-Wop and Old School Hip-Hop. Some of my first records, are records that are not considered bon ton nowadays, and not even stuff that I would necessarily put money on today. I kind of like it this way, me following the records I bought back in the days when I was a young DJ, and not necessarily records purchases to follow me and my taste.

2) 45/7 is all about celebrating the 7". Can you tell us a bit about what you love about the format?

I don't have a lot of 7'' records, and only recently I started to face the challenge of making strictly 7'' sets. I like it that this format of musical "snacks" is more characterized by hits, sometimes Pop, or Black Pop for me. While mixing, I get a chance to make unique connections to well-known songs, hopefully inspiring the listener to listen afresh to old tunes, and to discover surprising features and musical elements in them. I believe that in dealing with the obvious musical products of pop culture, and not merely with the more obscure and rare, we as DJ's gain an opportunity to imply more relevant insights about the culture and identity of modern life.

3) One hour of vinyl goodness... can you talk us through your selection for your 45/7 mix? 

This 45 mix kicks off with a classic instrumental tune by Isaac Hayes. I love starting DJ sets with 70s instrumentals, I believe it gets you into a kind of a radio-oriented vibe, sometimes cheesy, keeping it mysterious and obscure without any lyrics to put meaning in the beginning. After the opening tune, we got "Love is Contagious" by Taja Sevelle on Paisley Park Records. Then, after a number by the almighty hit machine of KC & The Sunshine Band, we get into some harder Funk with "I Wanna Be with You" by The Isley Brothers.
