My all-time favorite 90s R&B duo. Changing Faces wishes they were Zhané.

I wanted a more dancefloor-friendly version of this song that kept to the original's overall feel. And since I tend to turn everything into Dancehall... "(Pineapple) Crush" was born. The original version is perfection but it's more of a babymaker than a partystarter. I think this take walks a fine line between the 2 vibes. Hope you enjoy dancing and/or making babies to it :)

Tech Notes: This is another one that was rebuilt, then remade from the ground up. The CD single had all the parts needed to work out a decent set of stems. Toss in some Detroit Emeralds drums and we're golden. I had originally dropped this via my TREW mailer exclusively, but this updated version has some production hiccups fixed and overall is remixed and remastered for maximum bootyshake.

Zhané - (Pineapple) Crush [TREW remix]

Based on one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite Funk groups. Kool & The Gang were a completely different group in the early 70s than they were in the 80s. A Horn heavy, breakbeat laden, Jazz Funk Soul outfit.  Their track "N.T." is probably the closest they came to a wandering, jam band type song, with the entire horn section getting a chance to breathe. With the kicker being the heavily sampled drum break that appears towards the song's end. Dilla flipped this break lovely on Q-Tip's "Breathe and Stop" and this remix cribs a bit from his version and peppers in a healthy dose of those boombastic K&G horns. Enjoy!

Even though 17 years have passed since the release of Queen Latifah's "U.N.I.T.Y.", not much has changed in the World. There's still much more work to be done and we'd like to use our voice to contribute when possible. So for our 2020 digital releases, proceeds will be donated to different community-based charities / social programs in Chicago.
