The mastermind behind Basic Channel, Hard Wax and Rhythm & Sound doesn't do mixes. For RA.1000, he made an exception.

Trace Mark Ernestus's path, and you trace the evolution of electronic sound itself. The timeline of contemporary Berlin is unimaginable without him. At first, that meant Hard Wax, the crucial hub that shaped the early era of the city's techno revolution. Carl Craig once said it plainly: "Mark was ground zero."

From there, Ernestus never stopped. There's the birth of dub techno and the near-flawless catalogue that followed through Basic Channel and Rhythm & Sound. There's his immersion in Senegalese mbalax with Ndagga Rhythm Force. Lately, that means Open Ground the Wuppertal bunker that's letting people hear music as never before.

As part three of RA.1000, Ernestus has kindly supplied his first studio DJ mix. As you might expect, it's technically immaculate, but more than that, it feels like a substantial and generous conduit to one of the world's most vital genres.

Amapiano remains underexplored in music media. Publications like our own are still learning to keep pace with the South African sound's global pull, animating millions across the globe. 

You'll hear the range and richness of the genre across the near two-hour mix, from the gothic, percussive stomp of Caltetonic's "Bambela"  to the devotional glow of GemValleyMusiq's "Something Spiritual."

Through all of this, Ernestus has remained understated. He lets the music speak for him, with a quiet honesty that lies in decades of opening doors—creating the conditions for new sounds and scenes to flourish and carry the culture forward.

Having methodically teased the soundscape of her forthcoming compilation over the past months, she now unveils ‘Body Language Vol. 26’, a record that stands as both a statement of intent and an act of refined curation. Launched in 2005 by Berlin-based label Get Physical Music, the Body Language series has become one of dance music's most essential and enduring mix compilation series. Each edition serves as a curated journey, blending exclusive tracks and remixes that push the boundaries of house and techno. With contributions from luminaries like Booka Shade, WhoMadeWho and andhim, the series has consistently showcased a commitment to innovation and musical depth, influencing both DJs and listeners worldwide. The project unfolds over eleven tracks, as she unveils a deftly balanced selection that plays like a nuanced narrative. It moves from the effervescent, sun-warmed piano house of ‘So In Love With You’, through to the nocturnal depths of ‘Bad Habits’ – a reverent yet freshly dark reimagination of Jenny Burton’s ’85 anthem, co-produced with Alfonso Muchacho – before arriving at the skeletal, hypnotic minimalism of ‘Just Just’; a deft reworking of a Rework classic.

Central to the compilation’s identity is the never-before-heard ‘Takina’, a collaboration with Alexey Union and Kinky Sound that crystallizes the collection’s ethos. The new Intec release is from Carl Bee who previously made an impact on the label in 2018 with his EP titled Untifight.

Carl Bee is based in Malta and over numerous years of DJing at many top clubs and events in the region, he has established himself as one of the countrys most respected underground talents

His releases on Intec represent the techno-focused part of his style, but something of a chameleon he has an eclectic sound, also boasting releases on highly respected labels such as Green & Saved Records.

Rumble opens the release with snare rolls that give it an upbeat party vibe, but its defining feature is the spinning LFO of the lead synth that dominates the tracks captivating breakdowns. Terrace party techno at its best, the tracks summery vibe is full of energy, making it a certified party starter.

Taking us deeper is the tech house influenced Lamination thats percussive groove has a tribal feel to the free-flowing rhythms. Vibrant textures add to the tracks high energy as well as the vocal phrases behind its title.

Get Physical turn their attention to Croatia with a new series of EPs featuring exciting artists from the country. This first offering has been compiled by contributing artist Andrea Ljekaj and also gets its own special launch party in Zagreb on May 17th.

First up is Marina Karamarko, who has really made her mark with sets at Sankeys Ibiza, Sonar OFF and Sonus Festival in the last decade. She runs the ThanQ Music label and has been highlighted by Beatport as a real production visionary. ‘Hello’ is her intriguing track here and it has a spooky atmosphere with jittery percussion and paranoid vocals stitched into the marching groove. It’s tense throughout and always keeps you guessing.

Next is Andrea Ljekaj, a multi award-winning producer and international DJ with releases on Get Physical, Einmusika, Save Us and Selador. He has a weirdly euphoric sound and on ‘Tamo’ he layers up big drum rhythms, industrial textures and thundering claps into a bold and attention grabbing techno track.

Lastly is Insolate, a dark techno specialist who has landed on DJ Deep’s Deeply Rooted and played clubs like Rex, Tresor and Berghain. Her brilliantly driving ‘Nada’ is pure minimal techno in the style of Jeff Mills. It has hurrying drums and train track-like synths that race forwards and sweep you along for the sci-fi ride.

This EP is a great window into the bristling Croatian scene.
