AFFKT - THE BIG PICTURE (ALBUM)

Definitely inspiration strikes in a myriad of waves. New AFFKT’s album brings together all the best feelings and elements of the Spanish producer creativity into one cohesive release. New concepts and styles to deliver everyone some of the energy that needs to be released after a forced pause. 

Sonically speaking ‘The Big Picture’ is probably his most expansive and multifaceted electronic-driven album to date. AFFKT’s carefully constructed retro-futuristic electronica definitely suggests the quaint and unique forms of body music bringing ties with rock, pop and certainly more organic sounds. The musician is creating a new path, a new future by travelling to the past.  This new LP is redefining its own new genre somewhere between techno, indie dance, industrial and new wave inspirations. He perfectly manages to thrill us –in a very and innate sense- as well as taps into our very core. 

That said the songs of the new album hide unforgettable moments in the artist’s life. Let’s take the song ‘Bloom’ as an example. The melody is inspired by a song AFFKT’s mother used to play him when he was a child ('Eye in the Sky' by The Alan Parson Project). ‘Abre los ojos (feat. ELLE)’ which talks about dreams, borrows its title from the famous 1997 film by Alejandro Amenábar. ‘Ueli’ is a beautiful tribute to his grandmother who now passed away almost a year ago; another big mark of respect is ‘Adiós ayer (feat. Piek)’ on this occasion with the iconic Ibiza DJ José Padilla -who also passed away recently and who was undoubtedly a reference for AFFKT- in mind.

“For instance, the song entitled “End of the Road” is a kind short story written by me, but read by a robotic voice. It says: From the top of the mountain you can see the end of the road. Nothing looks the same from this point; the old fears are gone and everything seems to make more sense; the vision and sensations from up here is such it; it has undoubtedly been worthy. I definitely see my music as a really colourful open-minded combo of many different sounds that is an important dogma to me” AFFKT attests.

Unlike when composing an EP, AFFKT likes to build his albums in a cinematic way. By taking a sonic approach to telling stories. The artist is looking for a deeper, more descriptive way of working and describe feelings, moods, by using a different language. ‘The Big Picture’ can be enjoyed while dancing, as well as serving as emotional therapy.

‘The Big Picture’ album will be released exactly 4 years after the previous ground-breaking LP ‘Son of a Thousand Sounds’ on Sincopat. Interestingly, AFFKT’s debut album –‘Punto 0’- was also released with a difference of 4 years. This must somehow hide some runic secret and mean something. Something good!

01 Anthony Middleton - What Could Have Been (Ode To BM2020)

'After four years bringing the best of house music to Rio de Janeiro - in addition to some showcases in other Brazilian states and even in New York -, the crew and label party Underdogs grew. From an initiative of two people (DJ Rodrigo Morgado and Ricardo Salim acting behind the scenes), it now has six: three new resident DJs Bernardo Campos, Icle and Alan Fack, plus A&R Thiago Freitas, who joined the team mainly to add to the brand's next big step: becoming a record label.

Here is the kick-off of this initiative: the "Connected"EP is the number one release from Underdogs Music. The record features two tracks: the original, produced by three heads - Bernardo Campos, Icle and the duo from Niterói, Bruce Leroys -, plus a remix signed by the German DJ and producer Tigerskin.

"Connected" is a classic house gem with a modern verve. With piano notes and violins in the foreground, led by an acid bassline retouched by an equalizer filter, filled by melodic ambiences of synths in the background and brushed by sounds of nature animals, the track also takes the lead of a sensual male vocal who repeats the mantra: "I'm high, I'm high on you; we're connected; connected". Six minutes of pure house elegance that should please fans of projects like Hercules & Love Affair, Horse Meat Disco, Moullinex, Kerri Chandler and the eternal godfather of the style, Frankie Knuckles.

Tigerskin's remix takes things to a deeper and slightly psychedelic vibe. The original structure of "Connected" remains, but each element has its tones distorted in some instance - now supporting, the vocals gain vocoder effect, the pianos echo in reverb and the beat seems to have lost about 50kg, resulting in a more restrained, watery and dreamy.

First of many, the EP is a small sample of what Underdogs Music has to offer from now on. More is coming!'

'A stalwart, and in the true sense of the word (as well as being one of the nicest people you could hope to meet on a night out), Al Bradley has been obsessed with House Music from the moment he stepped through the doors of the seminal Hacienda night club in Manchester in the summer of 1989. It’s an obsession that’s lead him down a long and winding road, including 18 years and counting as a label boss, allowed him to feature on nearly 100 releases as well as celebrated residencies for powerhouses like Fabric London, Bugged Out Manchester and Pioneer DJ Radio. Being the kind of guy Al Bradley is though, he’s still also made time to kick it with the younger cats at spots like Stereosleaze (London) and Lip Service and Deadbeat Disco in his adopted hometown of Leeds. 

We’re genuinely over the moon to bring you this EP, and as such, we’ve complimented the originals with what we feel are some pretty dandy remixes, spread across both the Vinyl and Digital releases, coming from the likes of self-proclaimed “product of a mis-spent mancunion youth” Danny “Moodymanc” Ward, the vinyl enthusiast’s favourite Tommy “Vicari Jnr” and the ever evolving genius of Colour Series Label Boss “Jem Haynes”

'Fool’s Gold' feat. Jono McCleery is the final single from Karol XVII & MB Valence's much anticipated new album, Essay, which drops in February 2022.

Karol XVII & MB Valence is a Polish duo with more than a decade spent playing around the world and serving up vital house sounds. They run their own Loco Records, have been nominated as Best Deep House Artists at the Beatport Music Awards, and always explore fresh new ground with each release. As well as their club and studio experiences, they also have backgrounds in composition and sound engineering. They are core Get Physical family members who contributed to 2020's 'Retrospective' and mark their finest work yet with the 'Essay' album, as hinted at with this classy new single. For this latest offering they have teamed up with UK singer songwriter and Ninja Tune associate Jono McCleery for something rather special.

The fantastic 'Fool's Gold' (ARPS Mix) begins with twisted, tortured synths that eventually give way to gorgeous keys. They strike a melancholic mood, while Jono McCleery's spine-tingling vocals up the emotional ante as the warm, deep drums roll on and cast a mesmeric spell. Jackspeare has released on Loco and Island Moods and remixed this outfit several times in the past. His version comes with a dark bassline rolling down low, while the poignant chords and soulful vocals hang up top. It's a track that brings real musicality to the dance floor. Last of all is a gorgeous BosaNoga Mix that removes the drums and reworks the track with acoustic guitar, soft shakers and languid chords. It's a heart-aching piece of gentle Latin-tinged rhythm for intimate late nights.

These are three superb new tunes that come just ahead of the brilliant full length.

Frenchman Leohnart makes a highly anticipated return in what is his debut on XYZ’s SOL imprint. I had the chance to meet the Robot Heart crew twelve years ago in NYC for a giant Halloween party where I played on the ‘copy bus’. 

That was a life changing moment somehow. I realized my music could be the soundtrack for a world that’s beyond our imagination, far from my Paris studio.

In 2023, I come full circle by performing at Burning Man for the very first time with my partner Liset Alea. 

This Thursday sunset set was a moment we’ll savour for years to come.

In this live recording you’ll hear: Liset singing 30 feet above the ground from inside the blinking heart, the voices of multiple colorful creatures dancing all around us, the massive Know Audio custom sound system rumbling under our feet, the laughter of unicorns, dragons and shamans… and if you really listen carefully you might even hear the buzz of a billion stars shimmering above our head.

Memories of Robot Heart founder Geo carried us along the set. His legacy will live forever.

Thank you Robot Heart for your commitment to music, love and Burning Man.

A lot has happened in the last 20 years of dance music, but one constant has been Get Physical right at the sharp end of the scene. The label has become a globally recognised symbol of quality, renowned for its always varied and vital house output. Forming the backbone of the label's vast catalogue is the influential in-house DJ mix series, Body Language. It is a snapshot of exactly where the underground is at and has been assembled by tastemakers such as Azari & III, Catz ‘N Dogz, Dixon, DJ Hell, Francesco Tristano, Nôze and of course label-founders Booka Shade, DJ T., and M.A.N.D.Y..
