Poker Flat Recordings keeps up its prodigious release schedule with another superb EP - this time by scene statesmen Gorge and Markus Homm. Gorge (aka Pit Waldmann) is the co-owner of 8bit Records, originally from Mannheim and has carved a singular niche for himself over the past 20-odd years. Similarly. Markus Homm has been deeply influential in developing the scene in his native Romania, and is now working alongside the Poker Flat regular Mihai Popoviciu.

With this EP Gorge and Markus Homm have merged their many talents and honed two tracks of depth and weight. 'Holos' is a tightly wound slice of superior tech house, textured and layered with lush chords and a thick lower end.

'Glint' also showcases the duo's mutual understanding of the dynamics of the dance floor - a slick groove is enhanced and expanded via subtle and effective melodic elements, including a pinch of acidic 303 sounds.

Get Physical mainstay @m-o-n-r-o-e returns to the label with three more of his stylish house cuts. 

m.O.N.R.O.E. has had a colourful life that has seen him have a stint in the fashion industry working with the world’s biggest fashion brands as well as DJing and producing since his teens. He has linked with several vital labels from VIVa MUSiC to The Martinez Brothers’ Cuttin' Headz and, of course, Get Physical Music. His diverse style takes in elements of all the cities he has visited on his travels over the years, as well as places like the infamous Burning Man. 

He opens this fresh EP with 'Push The Fader' and works up a steamy house groove over six superb minutes. The drums and bass are warm and slick; the vibes are tinged with '90s cool, and the effect on the dance floor is sure to be irresistible. 'The Watcher' has a more edgy feel, with grinding bass and twisted synths keeping you on your toes. It's a late-night track that draws you in deep and keeps you there. Closing out this top trio is 'Ruff Around The Edges', which shows another side to m.O.N.R.O.E.. Here he cooks up some slick electronic funk with bouncy kicks, snappy hits and neon pads all weaving tightly around each other.

Italian native Cristina Lazic returns to Rebellion following her recent release on the Souls Vol.2 VA last year. This March the rising star delivers an accomplished three-track EP for the Crosstown Rebels sub-label.

Talking about the release, Cristina explains: “Burning is an EP that will accompany people in a variety of situations - from introspective journeys in moments of reflection, to social gatherings with friends and all the way to the dance floor. It consists of three tracks that contain a mix of minimal sounds with groovy bass, with female / male catchy vocals and unique elements full of surprises.” Delving further into the creation of the EP she reveals: “In Mirror I was inspired to include a guitar tone after listening to the great track “Taff” by Leonidas and Traumer; Jazzy Feeling is the result of an effort to combine minimal with funk and jazz music. Finally, with the lead track Burning I wanted to obtain a happy dance floor sound to make people dance, including unexpected elements, like seventh chords.”

In the title track Burning, a playful bassline drives the track as floaty vocals ride throughout the dreamy layers of chords and percussion. Jazzy Feeling is deep and powerful with a solid bassline, infectious vocals and an inspiriting atmosphere. Last up, Mirror rounds off the EP, once again demonstrating Cristina’s adept skill for creating hypnotic layers, sensual tones and rolling dancefloor music that can also be enjoyed anywhere at any time.

Born in Milan and raised in London, Cristina Lazic started playing the piano when she was six and grew up composing music. Emerging into the spotlight only four years ago, Cristina has performed at iconic clubs and festivals around the world. She also caught the attention of Pioneer DJ Italy, who chose her as an ambassador and example for aspiring female DJs. Her releases can be found on Bondage Music, Creature Records and Rebellion. Because Kellerkind's “Disco on the Dancefloor” remains to this day a huge milestone in Sirion Records discography and the original track is still 10 years later an absolute earworm.

Dedication, constant focus on music, care and respect for others, are attributes that continue to apply to Kellerkind and have moved us to a remake of this infamous title. 

As the title of the main track says, “Disco on the Dancefloor” with its groovy basses, poignant disco stabs is ideal for the dancefloor and still perfectly suited to inspire the masses. 

But Kellerkind doesn’t rest on the guaranteed success of the past, he immediately delivers a thriving remake that perfectly reflects his current musical taste. Percussive, hypnotic and an all-around successful job to dress the track in a new garb.

Fittingly, there are two remixes by 8 Bit labelhead Gorge and Bernese producer Youen, among others.
A housy framework paired with percussion, discoid bass line and the hypnotic synth surface in the usual Gorge manner, not only gets the legs bobbing and the head nodding, but animates to conquer the dance floor.
Youen's techhousy remix puts the focus more on kick and clap and therefore comes as a true stomper. Peppered with the discreetly used samples, this makes for a wonderfully danceable mix for peak time.

10 Years of “Disco on the Dancefloor” is therefore more current than ever and an absolute must in the record bag, either on vinyl or digitally.

Montreal's Hillel Shabtai inaugurates the DIALNINE imprint with a vibrant two tracker. The emerging producer wastes no time seizing the spotlight with an energetic, boisterous sound that is capped with his very own dulcet tones.

Leading the EP is the inimitable anthem 'Jump Up'. The track fuses a lush, swinging groove and a powerful kick- drum. Sumptuous hi-hats and a spicy percussion ensemble fill out the body, while a captivating synth-line and the concise yet spirited vocals complete the dance-floor weapon.

A lot has happened in the last 20 years of dance music, but one constant has been Get Physical right at the sharp end of the scene. The label has become a globally recognised symbol of quality, renowned for its always varied and vital house output. Forming the backbone of the label's vast catalogue is the influential in-house DJ mix series, Body Language. It is a snapshot of exactly where the underground is at and has been assembled by tastemakers such as Azari & III, Catz ‘N Dogz, Dixon, DJ Hell, Francesco Tristano, Nôze and of course label-founders Booka Shade, DJ T., and M.A.N.D.Y..

Next to that there has been a constant stream of innovative, dance-floor ready singles, crossover club classics, seminal remixes and a number of standout artist albums. The label has always stayed true to its house roots, but with a rich array of influences taken from the worlds of disco, deep, tech and melodic house. Along the way, Get Physical´s core artists have been joined by red hot new talents including Alinka, Thandi Draai, PAUZA, Yulia Niko, Birds Of Mind, CIOZ and Monkey Safari. There have also been carefully considered forays into thriving house music scenes in Africa, Brazil, Cuba, Croatia and India: dedicated compilations and EPs have highlighted those region's most exciting new talents and given them a global platform. 

The name says it all: Get Physical tracks could hardly be more moving and corporeal. It was true in 2002, and it will be true in 2022 and beyond. To celebrate the occasion, the label will reissue some of its most classic tracks, host special anniversary events and release a new range of merchandise in collaboration with Australian brand One Teaspoon. Get Physical has already made a huge contribution to the history of contemporary house music, but rest assured the German label still has plenty more to say.
