"This EP is the result of years of identity research.

After more than 10 years of electronic music, I succeeded in this second EP to gather all the musical currents which inspired me and made vibrate all my life. My artistic approach is to create a fusion between the different musical genres that influence me, and especially, to give each of my tracks, a real identity. Percussion with Tribal sounds, a heaviness that we recognize Bass Music, rhythms shifted and dancing, this is what qualifies Leese.

This mixture is tasty, between the emotional, and the technical, I want at all costs to build original structures, varied and innovative, while traveling through all these currents, in the desire to make the listener feel.

I like this round aspect of this EP. Everything ties together, and is carefully handled. I don't know exactly what I'm trying to bring together, but I feel when I'm going in the right direction or not, each time I produce. It's a heavy and sub urge that takes to the trips, with these percussions that recall our primal instincts and speak directly to our body. The human reconnection that allows the addition of oriental voices, accompanied by melodic layers (with partimony).

I hope to touch the originality, I hope to create the astonishment, the surprise. The moment of creation can sometimes be very introspective, I do not count any more the hours or I tore off the hair of my head, to try to find my personal touch and what will make me vibrate myself in this process. The end result is self recognition. I am very happy to be able to present you this EP, as well as to deliver you a part of me."

While footwork culture originated in Chicago and is still primarily being championed by Chicago producers, DJs, and dancers, international artists like Marius Mevold AKA Slick Shoota have also been instrumental in bringing the sound to a worldwide audience by incorporating elements of other genres like jungle, drum & bass, and grime. His high-octane hybrid club productions are always recognizable by the frenetic pounding groove, rap and ragga vocal chops, and of course, his infamous “LET’S MOVE” tag. An official Teklife member since 2015, Slick Shoota has laid a foundation of strong underground relevancy, while also peeking into the more mainstream side of dance music here and there with a release on Diplo’s Mad Decent and a widely supported rave smasher bootleg of Hudson Mohawke’s “Cbat” that is still making the rounds on dancefloors and festival stages all over the world despite being released almost 7 years ago. For many electronic music fans getting more interested in uptempo dance music, Slick Shoota bridges the gap into the wonderful world of 160 bpm and beyond.

We’ve been huge fans of Marius’ work for the better part of a decade now, so it goes without saying that we’re hugely honored to have him on the Booms and Claps mix series. For “BnC Mix 042: Slick Shoota,” he delivers a 38 minute offering of club-ready originals, VIPs, edits, and remixes, many of which are featured on his most recent album release “VIP VAULTS.” The 20-track collection of largely never-before-heard tracks Slick produced between 2013 and 2018. Sally is a NB DJ of Japanese heritage. Born in Toronto and raised on a strictly rave based diet, their musical tastes are constantly evolving, presently resulting in an eclectic, and totally psychedelic, mix of high energy dance and silky smooth bass. Drawing influences from around the world they aim to provide listeners with a globally focused approach to modern dancefloor education, while equally paying tribute to the roots of Soundsystem culture. Currently living in Vancouver BC, they helped to found Sanctuary Collective (@sanctuaryluv) as a means to further push the sounds that they love.
