Glitterbox’s own Melvo Baptiste returns to the label with ‘Did You Pray Today?’, featuring vocals from Annette Bowen. Following the success of his gospel-tinged collaboration with Dames Brown, ‘Sweat’, Melvo Baptiste is back to develop his joyful sound - this time spotlighting the vocal talents of Annette Bowen. The two previously collaborated on the label in 2022, releasing ‘Gonna Be Alright’ alongside Chicago legend Jamie 3:26 to critical and commercial acclaim. ‘Did You Pray Today?’ is a take on the Lisa Taylor original from 1992, a unique, upbeat addition to the London tastemaker’s diverse catalogue of records. As the track builds in ecstasy, Annette’s powerful yet crystal clear voice is supported by choral ad libs and Melvo’s cool, underground production touches.

A true nightlife authority with experience, holding a DJ residency at Savage London, Alan Dixon’s vibrant, disco-adjacent and globally appealing sound has earned him recognition from key industry names over the years including Keinemusik, Black Coffee, Gerd Janson and Pete Tong. His versatile taste sees him play all over the world consistently, with his DJ sets in May 2024 alone reaching Milan, London, Stockholm, Amsterdam, Lausanne and Glitterbox’s Hï Ibiza summer residency. Synthesising his wide knowledge of international influences and electronic genres, Alan Dixon presents a much anticipated follow up to ‘Sunday Stomper’ with Will Tramp, his previous Glitterbox outing. ‘Nothing But Happiness’ is an upbeat, gospel-house release that perfectly matches the Glitterbox aesthetic; uplifting vocals float above Alan Dixon’s crystal-clear production to create a record that demonstrates a world class level of studio expertise.

It’s been four long years since Steve Bug’s sublime deep house imprint blessed us with Classics Volume 01 – but when it comes Dessous Recordings – it’s worth the wait. Always ahead of the curve, the German label started as an outlet for the tastemaker and uber producer / DJ Steve Bug’s deeper urges – releasing a seemingly endless supply of fresh, smart sounds from some of house’s most renowned artists. No wonder this retrospective comes across as a celebration of a job well done – within its 20 tracks are some of the mostly finely constructed, emotional and downright dancefloor destroying grooves of this or any decade.  Nestled into its prized running order are indeed many classics, whether they be of the new, old or obscure type.  

Familiar faces make a welcome return – check out the contributions by long time collaborators Phonique, Solomun, Ryo Murakami, Vincenzo, Tanzmann and Stefanik – all dropping the genre defining slices of rich, hedonistic, elegant house music that have made their names in Europe and across the globe. As if proof was required that Dessous hasn’t rested on its laurels, several tracks from the last couple of years feature prominently – witness Moodymanc’s motor-funk detonations, Andrade’s twisted disco and Burnski’s deep pressure vibes.  What’s more, Giles Smiths’ Two Armadillos project takes its rightful place in the canon of classic Dessous releases, alongside vocal contributions by straight-up house legend Robert Owens via Dan Berkson and James What’s ‘Keep On’. 

In its 14 years history, Dessous has ridden a fair few sea changes in the choppy waters of house, yet has always retained its unique identity. Dessous Classics Volume 2 is a timely reminder of how quality wins through. Always relevant, always pushing things forward – here’s to many more years on the cutting edge. 

For The Time Being Remixes

Phonique - For The Time Being

Fresh on the trail of this year’s exceptional long player ‘Noir’, Steve Bug returns with perhaps his most deep house-oriented track in a while – ‘The Long Run’.

Teaming up with US house legend Mr. V, who inititally donated vocals only, the collaboration brought up Mr V‘s own interpretation of Bug‘s track. This release is as delicious a serving of classic New York deep house as you will hear all year – or any year.

Dessous’ main man is at the controls, riding out a sumptuous, Rhodes-driven groove that references golden era Kerri Chandler and friends, but remains completely rooted in 2012. Mr V’s spoken word vocal lays out the manifesto for these two house pioneers – both are committed to quality music, made with passion and respect.

Next stop on ‘The Long Run’ is Mr. V’s stunning take on the same track. Ratcheting up the percussive elements, the New York native injects hints of the Latin rhythms that define many of his productions, making this into a stone-cold club banger whatever the party.

Both tracks come with corresponding instrumental versions for the DJs, rounding out this irresistible release that continues Dessous’ outstanding run of releases this year.
