Bio:

Alain M. started DJ’ing in his early 20s and played a variety of clubs. From
teenage influences in progressive rock, metal and blues, and later New York
and Chicago house, Dutch techno and early trance, his style has evolved
towards the more melodic, infectiously rhythmic and thoughtful sounds of
progressive house, with a particular fondness for Argentinian productions.

Over his years as a DJ, Alain has cultivated a signature melodic, danceable, and thoughtful style with enough surprises to keep even the most devout listeners on their toes. 

He has organized and collaborated in a number of events including Levitar, Sunday Meet & Beat, Sit-Down Sessions, Shake my Thursday, Ultraviolet, Expeditions and more, attracting a thoughtful crowd who stay mesmerized by his melodic, danceable sets, always peppered with delightfully unexpected sonic elements.

In 2019 he started Ottawa Prog Vibes, which has grown into a weekly radio show that has been broadcast on several radio stations including Cosmos Radio (Germany), Dinámica Radio (Argentina), and currently Beach Radio (UK), Chill Lover Radio (New York) and Blast the Radio (Ottawa).

Alain M. is also a guest DJ submitting regular sets to several radio and online
outlets. He is a resident on UK-based Beach Radio and on X-Beat Radio (France, Belgium).

Alain has also produced and co-produced a few original tracks, released on
Future Avenue, BeKool Records, What Happens Records, with more on the way.

He has appeared as a guest on a number of shows in several countries
including the UK, Argentina, Spain, The Netherlands, Brazil, Sri Lanka, Peru,
Turkey, Israel and the US. In Canada, he has been featured as a guest DJ at
several events by Ottawa-based Music.Art.Ppl, on CHUO FM’s Vanguard Pulse
Radio, on CKCU FM’s Lost In Bass and Mapped Out Radio, on Montreal’s
Afterhour radio show and on Toronto’s ION radio show.

Frankfurt based DJ, producer, curator and event manager Shia LaBiff, known amongst his peers as Michèl Dion Baltin, has a huge repertoire of music and influences which he is constantly sharing for more than 20 years.
Starting in early age with Indie, Post Punk and New Wave he soon discovered the joy of electronic club music and started following the path of New Order, Primal Scream and Andrew Weatherall into a new beat driven world. 
You will hear shades of Italo and Electronic Body Music, New Beat, Acid House, Techno and New/Cold/Synthwave in his mixtapes or DJ sets. His event and guest mix series Blank Wave is providing artists like Perel, Lauer, Shubostar, Que Sakamoto, Rotciv, Moderna and Skelesys – just to name a few.

For Matter, more than half a century of production credits adorn the jewel-encrusted crown that sits atop the Meanwhile and Meanwhile Horizons catalogues that he and fellow countryman, GMJ, preside over. Now returning to the label with a new twin-track offering, Matter delights once again with “Embrace / Elsewhere”.

From April 2020’s “Lost on Origin” and December 2023’s “Stellaris / Idtritah” with long-time friend and production partner, GMJ, to solo endeavours that include 2020’s musical triptych, “Amanita” and 2022’s “Banksia, Matter has continued to excel time and again in the progressive house realm. Always at the vanguard of an ever-evolving genre, the Australian star continues to find success in the studio in tandem with global DJ performances across Europe in Amsterdam, Glasgow, London as well as festival appearances in Australia and in clubs throughout his Melbourne hometown.

Now returning with a brand-new sonic diptych, “Embrace” is a chugging rhythmic gem that sparkles with hi-hat dynamism while a lilting percussive groove and cavernous kick keep a lock-tight beat. A beautifully syncopated synth-line, textured pads and floating vocal phrases create a relaxed atmosphere, as they evolve gently into full-formed phrases at the breakdown. Dropping back in the warm embrace of the earlier rhythmic phrasing, the vocal phrasing continues alongside the ethereal melodic elements and intermittent effects.

Opening with a bouncing grooved bassline and fizzing shaker pattern, a metronomic kick paves the way for a muted synth sequence to filter into the sonic foreground with ease. A sub-bassline deeper than the Mariana Trench adds to cascading sonic landscape as arpeggiated layers, thickly textured pads and white-noise fills join together. A heavily delayed and reverb-drenched vocal reveals itself at the breakdown alongside an array of melodic sequences, before the epic groove drops back in through the third movement with the extended vocal phrase and arpeggio combining to mesmerising effect.

Back to welcome the Meanwhile faithful with a 24-carat jewel, Matter’s hallmark of quality can be found running through “Embrace / Elsewhere”.
