 A truly talented artist with huge following and global appeal, Alex O’Rion continues to go from strength to strength within the world of underground dance. With his work spanning some 15 years of commercial releases, the Dutch master is a welcome returnee to Meanwhile with a stellar quartet of original tracks.

A regular across the industry’s finest purveyors of modern and cerebral progressive house music, Alex O’Rion has constantly found his music featured on such esteemed imprints as Hernan Cattaneo’s Sudbeat, Guy J’s Lost & Found and Nick Warren’s Hope. A regular visitor to the upper echelons of the Beatport charts, over a million Spotify streams in 2020 and 4,000 followers points to broad appeal and wide-ranging support.

Now returning to Meanwhile after a trio of remixes for label head-honchos GMJ & Matter on June 2020’s “Gauntlet” and February 2021’s “The Path”, Alex O’Rion now returns to the label with a devastating 4-track original EP of unrivalled quality.

The “Echium” title track is a blistering sub-bass monster that drives along powerfully on a bed of ticking hi-hats and chest-thumping kick. Building in momentum, smooth pads and effortless synth lines flow across the 8-minute piece before revelling in a stripped-back breakdown. Picking up the pace again in the third movement, gorgeous harmonic overtones layer delicately across each other, borne of never-ending delay sweeps.

“Stranded” continues the powerful rhythmic narrative and otherworldly sonic landscape before a percussive loop provides subtle melodic phrasing. Shifting synth sequences bisect the left-right spectrum as waves of white noise fall against a rocky outcrop of percussive hats. Melodic lines continue to evolve in delicate patterns into the second half in a sonic palette of sheer bliss.

A sumptuous bassline groove propels “The Chase” through its hypnotic paces, accompanied by a chugging rhythmic backdrop. Simultaneously, gentle synth motifs pulsate in side-chained synchronicity as a rich symphony of sound swells into the second half against a plucked earworm phrase. The result is a dynamic and devastating club-friendly track that is sure to inspire a multitude of hands-in-the-air moments.

“The Serpent” ends the quadrilogy with its rippling sound effects that cascade in spiral patterns against a melodious foreground. Delicate percussive patterns marry with a deep resonant kick to provide a rhythmic anchor, giving freeform synth motifs the opportunity to express a meandering sonic voyage that reaches a powerful crescendo at the midpoint. Hitting its stride again in the third movement with additional melodic sequencing, the result is a charismatic end to an outstanding original EP.

An artist with a diverse and storied relationship with the dance music scene, GMJ & Matter are proud to see Kasper Koman make his label debut with the twin-track "Sinking Sky / Biome". A veteran of more than a century of production credits dating back to a 2008 debut, Kasper Koman has seen his work signed to myriad high-profile labels including the likes of Plattenbank, Anjunadeep and Guy J's Lost & Found. From central Netherlands, Kasper has combined trademark emotion with a powerful and evocative sound that has seen his music supported by such leading tastemakers as Guy Mantzur, Nick Warren, Hernan Cattaneo and Guy J himself. Now debuting on Meanwhile, the "Sinking Sky" opener is characterised by a driving beat and metronomic hi-hat pattern. A running 16th note bassline pattern enters the fray in the second movement with a fizzing vibrancy provided by resonating and filtered effects. A cast of additional characters add to the overall sonic landscape including a beautifully juxtaposed pad progression. A spine-tingling breakdown provides acetylene-edged emotion via the extended bassline motif, before hitting its stride once more in the latter stages to wondrous effect and no small amount of production talent. "Biome" continues the narrative of raw effects-laden power, while a strong kick lays the foundation for a piercing percussive groove, adding swing to the off-beat. A well-crafted sonic palette supplies a soft chord progression of Kraftwerk-inspired imagination as a meandering array of well-placed effects, white-noise washes and rasping bass notes create a mosaic of sounds. The result is a hypnotic, angular offering that keeps listener interest piqued without a central melody seeing the 6-minute piece fly past in an instant. An artist causing a buzz with his multi-faceted productions, Nopi debuts on Proton Music with his twin-track, "Parallel Words". Remixes come from Australian and US stars.

Finding himself allied to some of the most respected modern imprints with a sought-after deep house and melodic techno sound, Nopi has carved out a sizeable reputation for himself in 12 short months after a March 2019 debut for Pipe & Pochet. Since then, music for Nie Wieder Schlafen, Kindisch and Pablo Bolivar's Seven Villas, has seen the Ukrainian hit the ground running. Following up on May 2020's remix of Erdi Irmak for Proton Music, Nopi now returns with a debut EP. The title track is an immaculately crafted affair that bristles with intricate percussive intent while a cast of elegant and emotive, melodic characters mingle and entwine in brilliant sonic patterns. The result is a swathe of filtered arpeggios, textured pads and counterpoint motifs that evolve over a 7-minute piece in magisterial fashion. "Liquid Week" continues the delicate percussive framework as fizzing hi-hats form the backdrop for hypnotic melodies to develop alongside a smooth lead sequence. Hitting its stride with the wow and flutter of tape delay at the breakdown, subtle variations add depth and texture to the track.

Fresh from the launch of their Meanwhile imprint, GMJ & Matter continue to find themselves permanent fixtures in the upper echelons of the underground dance scene. Prolific and talented, the pair's solo and collaborative work has become a central component of the Proton Music catalogue with their "Superposition", "Osmosis" and "Interscope" EPs. Remixes for Andre Sobota, Rudy and Juan Deminicis' "Tao the King" in April 2019, are now complemented by a stunning interpretation of "Parallel Words". Turning Nopi's track into a pulsating progressive house gem, a driving beat and rolling percussive groove supply the framework for white-noise washes and multi-layered pads to sweep across the stereo spectrum. Making its mark in a powerful third movement, echoes from the original cascade through the mid-range to typically mesmerising effect.

Founder of the highly regarded Manjumasi imprint alongside Atish, Mark Slee is a renowned name across the clubs and bars of his San Francisco home with notable appearance further afield in New York and Berlin. With more than two decades experience in the realm of electronic music, the US artist has developed a distinctive musical identity that has seen him feature on an array of high-profile imprints that include Looq Records, Cityfox and Seven Villas. Becoming a regular on Proton Music with remixes for Oliver Lieb, Navar and Rudy, Slee's "Veranda" EP in July 2020 showcased three original tracks full of ingenuity and musical craftsmanship. Returning to remix Nopi, the Mark Slee interpretation is full of the poise and grace that has become such a staple of his work. Building through chunky rhythmic groove, melodic echoes of Nopi's original emerge through a free-flowing electric organ that wends itself through the "Dry Ice Dub Mix" in melodic exploration. Extended delays ripple effortlessly while effects and sub-bass add weight.

Sparkling original tracks and remixes from GMJ & Matter and Mark Slee have Nopi revelling in "Parallel Words".

Highjacks - Grid Control (Fabri Lopez & Andres Moris Remix)

Eros, is the 7th EP of Various Artist from Droid9 South America, it includes 3 original mixes of pure Progressive House made by great artists. Among them are Argentine producers such as Konte, Andres Moris, Colou Befu and Ignacio Berardi.

Voice of experience, is the first track on this EP, made by Konte. In this track you can appreciate an ambient and dark sound, along with a very well achieved base, accompanied by a deep house sound to some extent. This creation keeps us in tune all the time, it is an ideal track for any time of the night, either at the end of a warm up or to generate a calmer atmosphere in an extensive set.

Into the light, is the second track, made by Andres Moris. This track obtained the support of Guy J (Echos 11/13/2020), in it we can notice in this creation a fine mixture in the Progressive House style, you can see solid drums accompanied by a powerful bassline, which when combined With the melody it begins to take us on a one-way trip to another dimension. Everything that seemed heavenly turns dark, minimal-style sounds begin to enter our ears which keeps the crowd to keep moving. It is an ideal track for any type of environment , in which listeners will go through different states of mind when being heard.

Sayonara, third track compiled by Colou Befu and Ignacio Berardi. You can see in this creation, a mix between an aggressive yet hypnotic and enveloping sound that progressively mutates and takes us on a journey from beginning to end. The combination of drums, melody and bass makes it sustain a good groove for the dance floor, which holds us to the floor and keeps us in constant motion. Undoubtedly this track can be used to exploit the night on any given dancefloor
