DUFF DISCO - YOUNG HEARTS (TASTER)

Making their debut on the label with their brand new EP 'Pajaro' Th;en bring it together for an extraordinary release that shows a startling amount of potential. 

They start us with the title track 'Pajaro' by using rhythmic beeps and mellow synth stabs to create a driving rhythm before the atmospheric pads create a beautiful setting, which fires with all guns blazing to produce a club monster that growls. Combining the best of both worlds, they have come up with something unique and distinctive to make this release extra special while applying an extra dose of groove and warmth to this incredible tune. 'Pajaro' stands for a fool proof and state-of-the-art piece of music, which will readily make you, take note and amaze in equal measures. 

Next up is 'Ave' a stripped back affair utilizing a hypnotizing groove as the basis of the track underpinned by a staccatoed bass that gradually eases its way to the breakdown of breaks percussive elements before unleashing into a rising melodic hook intertwined with the infectious stabs that delve into deeper territory, which sees lush pads fused with more sultry chord hits underpinned by Th;en's trademark bass patterns, before all manner of varied melodies weave in and out of the stereo field.

Last but not least we have the Starkato remix of the title track 'Pajaro'. Starkato who knows a thing or two when it comes to mind blowing reworks, turns his mix into an irresistible track using the original elements with perfection. He layers more melodies and effects, whilst upping the flow with cleverly programmed tech percussion and their trademark FX elements, without destroying the essence of the original. His rework deserves to be branded 'essential' in any sense of the word. 

Th;en's 'Pajaro EP' is an accomplished piece of work that highlights, that they're true masters of their craft. 'Pajaro' sees a worldwide release on February 26th, 2018. Massive stuff that is not to be missed!

Today is ICONYC’s 2nd anniversary. Going from zero to where we are today calls for celebration. It also calls for forward thinking because, without question, our greatest accomplishments still lie ahead of us. Anniversaries are special because they mark one of the most important days of your life. We have come a long way, built many great friendships, laughed, shared and mostly importantly appreciated all of your support, without ICONYC wouldn’t have been possible to begin with. 

A day where everything changed and your life was never the same. A day that we will never forget. When you look back it's easy to reminisce about how special that day actually was. The people you shared it with, the celebration you had, the excitement you shared with your special someone. All are memorable and equally ingrained in our hearts. 

People ask us how we stayed so motivated through the last 2 years in an industry persistent on change. It’s because we care deeply about what we do and the people we deal with. Many thanks to the incredible team at ICONYC and a community that’s been so supportive from the start. We are so proud to be part of this team and community, and we are so pumped to see what is in store for us on the other side of this great decade. 

Gratitude turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos into order, confusion into clarity...it makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow. To mark our 2-year anniversary and to show our appreciation, we will make a few ICONYC releases available, as free downloads over the remainder of the month. Starting today with this little summer tune. Here is to the next 10 years of mayhem and good music.

Maurice Caron has been causing quite a stir with his melodic influenced driving progressive house productions. He has seen his work released on labels like PHW Elements, Mistique, Juicebox and MNL amongst others, and has gathered massive support from the world’s finest.

With his debut on ICONYC Maurice shows maturity and musical development, as we kick off with the deep, hypnotic warm melodic layers of ‘Unspoiled Queen’, interspersed with subtle effective percussion while the drop is a glowing bucket of emotions. Mr.Caron manages to keep the energy up, subtlety allowing the driving house feel to shine thru over the many layers and textures to create a beautiful soundscape.

The second track on the EP is a collaboration between Dan Barber & Maurice aptly named Hurricane Proof. The Duo delivers a tougher and tech influenced mix, interspersing with roomy glowing love and filtered stabs, which beautifully leads into the dreamlike drop to round off this brilliant underground crowd pleaser, that will certainly make you move.

John Johnson’s ICONYC imprint steps left of centre for its latest offering and unveils a new collaborative project by the name of Paperheart. Chris Boshell and Aidan Kelly make up this intriguing new act which looks to showcase the finest in electronica. Irish artist Chris Boshell is perhaps best known for being one half of the ICONYC act Phraktal while also operating his own Bakroom imprint. Also, of Irish descent, photographer Aidan Kelly is famed for his many exhibits, most notably ‘This Place’ which is based on love notes to Dublin City. Together the duo has crafted an exquisite self-titled sound story which once again showcases ICONYC’s highly curated, borderless music policy. 

A few times a year an artist showcase comes along which touches the hearts and minds of electronic music lovers. One where traditional genre barriers are broken and a captivating journey unfolds. Where followers of different stylistic blueprints unite in a celebration of sound.  In a tale told over five acts Paperheart’s self-titled debut is one such release. 

‘It’s A Feeling’ sets the mood nicely with bassy analog rumblings sitting in stark contrast to a heartfelt melodic narrative. Timeless and contemplative, the main theme proves most captivating during a spacious second act, slowly melting down into slo-mo euphoria before perfectly segueing into the broken beats and meandering melancholia of ‘Cycle Time’. Transcendent tones and shifting noise sit on a bed of quirky acid before an expansive break seals it’s enduring appeal. 

It more than whet's the appetite for the transitional piece 'Normalcy Bias’. Ghostly vocal elements quickly burrow into your subconscious while an astral top line and bed of decayed sonics set the perfect backdrop for this four-minute excursion. The fourth piece ‘Inner City Magnetic’ begins with breathy loops, dulcet beats and mounds of swollen bass. Evolving beautifully, the piece strips down to warm pulses before frayed percussion and vocal spirals summon a storyboard of sci-fi effects and icy pads. 

Rounding out the release is ‘Back at Work’ where radio transmissions and transpo rumblings set a contemplative tone. Perhaps the perfect piece to reflect back on the collection; an audio travelogue for the ages, one where eloquent themes are immediately compelling and capture a timeless elegance not easily conveyed through electronics.

“healing” begins to open up from the haze that “fog” leaves. The title has a lot of meaning behind this one, laced with distant vocals telling you to “let the healing into your heart”. The track encapsulates the title of the EP, an emotional shift towards happiness, peace of mind, hope, and (some) clarity. This track was written with a lot of personal hardships on CD’s mind from a recent relationship, and always pictured being entranced by it at the end of a long set in the club.

With their brand new 'Evidence EP' we welcome German duo Stil & Bense to the label. Known for their deep techno vibes, house infused disco productions and releases on well-known entities like Poesie Musik & Sasha Braemer's WHATIPLAY, the duo land on ICONYC with their debut 'Evidence EP'. 

The duo's latest outing shows maturity and musical development, as we kick off procedures with the title track 'Evidence'. The track opens with all the right notes, as the expressive, melodic techno influenced track grabs you from the word go, interspersing with roomy glowing vibes and filtered stabs, driving leads culminating into an energetic drop to round off this brilliant underground crowd pleaser, with its understated yet driving bassline powering the groove along. Stil & Bense manage to keep the energy up, subtlety allowing the driving feel to shine thru over the many layers and textures to create a beautiful soundscape.

Next up we have a remix courtesy of German-Canadian duo TH;EN known for their polished and intricate sound profiling. They keep the ethereal theme of the original alive, as the pulsating bass powers along, before its drum fills and general warmth all combine to do the talking. Like something from yesteryear, yet sounding fresh and upfront - This transcendent touch up takes the energy levels up a notch, but increases the melancholy with stripped back and lucid elements at the same time, before the luscious pads grace the rework changing the vibe and creating a blanket of warmth that wraps around the effected groove. 

Last but not least, the guys drop the equally stunning 'Milky Way'. The track kicks things off nicely with its deep vibes shining through as we meander effortlessly through club inspired melodies, while the sultry chords and vocal samples sit wonderfully on top adding an extra layer of depth. The track continues to build on a solid foundation of tough percussive grooves and bass-lines. 'Milky Way' is an accomplished piece of work that highlights, that Stil & Bense are true masters of their craft.
