Bonnie Raitt’s career began with her self-titled release in 1971 and for five decades now, her distinctive mellow voice and slide guitar skills have influenced folk, rock, country and blues. Her 10 Grammy awards, including wins as Top Female Pop Vocalist, Best Rock Vocal and Rock Instrumental Performances, are a testament to her versatility. Bonnie also came in at 50 in the top 100 singers and at 89 in the top 100 guitarists. Her early success gave way to a less prolific period in the 80s. She began a comeback when she appeared as one of the female background vocalists for Roy Orbison on a well viewed television special. Work on a Disney compilation album led her to producer Don Was, and she made a roaring comeback with her 1989 album Nick of Time, which won the 1990 Grammy for Album of the Year. The album’s title song, along with singles "Have a Heart," and "Thing Called Love," all spent time on the Billboard charts. Her Grammy win that same year, for Best Traditional Blues recording, was awarded to her collaboration with John Lee Hooker for the song "In the Mood." Their duet appeared on his album titled The Healer. Raitt continued on a successful path in the 1990s and early 2000s, and she was recognized by the music industry in early 2000 when she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Since then she has released Slipstream in 2012, for which she won a Grammy for Best Americana Album.

DaGeneral adored 90’s rave culture, “I loved the fact that you partied sometimes all weekend and forgot all the troubles of the week,” he said, “It was like a parallel world where everyone was happy and got lost in the music.” Since then, the now 30-something producer and DJ has composed top-of-the-charts techno and tech-house tracks, performing all over Europe and maintained some of the most visible brands in modern dance music.

“I became a producer because I love playing music, but there is nothing better than playing your own songs to a crowd and feeling the reaction that it gets,” he said. “It’s an overwhelming feeling. All the hairs sticking up on the back of your neck as you see the people in the club dancing to a track that you wrote.”

With that emotion in mind, DaGeneral has played events like Judgement Day (Perth, 2008), Hardcore Temptation (Falkirk), Housexy (Perth) and many, many more. He has also been a resident DJ at the multi-location Frantic Friday events (2008-2009), Equinox, and B Se-Lek tive. DaGeneral has played with a myriad of other top DJs and producers including Mark EG, Mike C, Chuck-E, The Producer, Jon the Dentist, Phutek, Blue Amazon, Shades of Rhythm, Oliver Lieb, and many more. He’s traveled and played all over Ireland, the UK, and the Czech Republic.

DaGeneral is also an experienced producer and collaborator. Many of his tracks have reached the top-10 on various Beatport charts with several of the releases having sat firmly in the #1 position. He’s collaborated with Blue Amazon, Bageera, KoZY and more.

This Is Techno Live, a worldwide syndicated radio show, is another DaGeneral brand. “I wanted to create an alternative to the usual commercial offerings,“ he said. “I believe the format is four hours of the best underground tech-house and techno. It’s really for the people to tune in and listen to before they go out, or for those not going that night so they have an alternative.” The show features mixes from artists such as Mauro Picotto, Phutek, Umek, and of course, DaGeneral, to name a few.

It doesn’t end with This Is Techno Live, DaGeneral also owns General Surgery Records, a techno/tech-house record label that has topped charts on various online digital music stores. He also co-directs Iconic Underground Magazine, a monthly underground dance music magazine, and Se-Lek Music Group. Se-Lek Music Group is a joint venture involving DaGeneral, Lee Softley (Blue Amazon) and Victoria Ball (Perfect Promotions). It is a multi-disciplined venture that includes a record label, a compilation album label, a weekly radio show, and branded club nights. “I’m excited to be part of such an impressive and forward-thinking team,” DaGeneral said about the group.

He’s also affiliated with labels like Alchemy, RIOT, We Are Music, NYLO, Hydrogen, Mirabilis, ICONYC, Layer909, Twisted Techno, Reflekt, and Groovant. In 2015, DaGeneral became a Roland offical artist. For 2017, he’s looking forward to the release of his album (May, 2017) with collaborator, Bageera. Not to mention continuing to grow the General Surgery brand and its roster of artists. “I really want to give back to up and coming artists,” he said. “I want to help them achieve their goals. I wouldn’t be here without my mentors, and that’s left a big impression on me.”
