Metope’s tracks sometimes seem as if they longed to turn their digital being into real flesh. 
Unable to achieve this, they try to imagine what it would be like, by using bit reduction processes to simulate half forgotten thoughts. 
After years of calculations and communications with the spirit of a long forgotten master called „Sid“, they were still dissatisfied and 
they still didn’t know what being human feels like, …they had not even the faintest idea. 
But one day this frustrating situation came to an end. 
Metope played a few beautiful, yet slightly melancholic chords, recorded them and 
nearly went crazy when he realised what had happend:……….…"my love feels digital" he said to himself…..… “my digital feels love“ appeared on the screen…

Metope (born Michael Schwanen) has been producing electronic music for almost 20 years. He founded his label Areal Records with his good friends Basteroid and Konfekt in 2001. Through his releases on Areal he was soon being invited to perform live at clubs and festivals worldwide. In 2005 he released his first full-length album, “Kobol” which received critical acclaim for it's dark and original take on what a techno LP should be. Over the years Metope has also made a name for himself as a remixer, putting his touch on artists such as Depeche Mode, Gabriel Ananda, Lexy and Fairmont. 
In 2007 he began playing live as the Cereal Killers along with Areal label mate Ada, and friends Jake Fairley and Pan/Tone. In 2008 Metope and Basteroid opened the Areal sub-label IRR (International Records Recordings) with Ada as A&R. The label was instantly heralded by both the press and DJ's for the productions of John Daly, DJ Koze and Ada. Towards the end of 2009 Metope started to DJ professionally. Pryer to this he had kept this passion to himself and done so only in the shadows. He is now also experimenting with a combined live-set-DJ performance, using Traktor and a Native Instruments Maschine. 2009 also saw Metope establish Beachcoma Recordings with Canadian friends Pan/Tone and Fairmont. The three have now started to produce and perform live as a trio under the name Beachcoma.
Metope has several releases in the pipeline as well. Arriving first will be “Defender” on IRR, followed by “Betaowl” on Areal both in the November of 2010. He is also working on his next album which is set for release in the autumn of 2012 on Areal Records.

Throughout her discography and performances, experimental pop and performance artist Sui Zhen has zoomed in on the intersections between human life and technology — how to exist in the digital age, as well as the ways in which we risk losing true sight of ourselves in the process. From the banal pastel dystopia of the Secretly Susan era music videos to the invention of Linda, a ghostly apparition who manifests in her latest LP, Losing, Linda – her cinematic, surreal and staged landscapes allow her unique take on pop music to sit within its own uncanny terrain.

-	Shell-shocked by a compilation of Chicago House that his elder brother gave him, music pupil Roman from Darmstadt became interested in electronic music.
-	Visits to Sven Väth’s Omen in Frankfurt and nights spent with Underground Resistance or Warp turned his whole world upside down. LFO’s bass still massages his stomach region to this very day.
-	The first demo tape is given to Jörn Elling Wuttke, who is thrilled and leaves his others bands to join forces in a project with Roman.
-	Together they pay a visit to Ata and Heiko MSO. The latter work as DJs and sellers in Frankfurt’s Delirium and can hardly believe their ears. They are delighted to set their A&amp;R activities (Ongaku, Klang) in motion.
-	For Holy Garage “Surprise”, which also appeared on Eye Q, they found the Playhouse label, later to become the flagship of the label triumvirate and one of the most influential labels in Germany.
-	Time flies in the nineties with working on the label and the success of the projects Alter Ego and Sensorama. Roman also does solo projects under the name Soylent Green, Eight Miles High, Ro 70, Roman IV and his real name. The spectrum ranges from nosebleed techno to delicate ambient and electro-pop tunes.
-	Sven Väth asks Alter Ego to be his producer.
-	Remixes for Daft Punk, Radio Slave, Primal Scream, Ricardo Villalobos, The Human League, Spektrum, Tiefschwarz, Baby Ford, Chicks On Speed, and many others.
-	Alter Ego beats all the records with “Rocker” and Roman provides a worthy successor with “Geht’s Noch!?”.
-	Live appearances all over the world and Roman becomes increasingly popular as a DJ. His sets comprise 20 years of rave in one breath of techno, house, Italo-disco and obscurities. It goes by the name of acid house.

On October 1, 2000 Konfekt, Basteroid and Metope founded the electronic music label Areal. Their productions up to this point were the main reason for this decision: no matter wether it was a solo production or a collaboraton, one could always reduce their work to a common denominator. So they decided to give their music a ground to develop: the Areal. In 2008 we established our sublabel IRR (International Records Recordings)

Demo Submissions:

We receive probably 100 demos a week, thats about 25 hours to listen to music.
And guess what! 99% of the music received has nothing to do with what we release on Areal or IRR, so in most cases it's a waste of time to you and to us. If you know the labels and you have the feeling, that it is great to release here and it suits with the areal or irr-sound, then send us your soundcloudlink via email to info @ areal-records.com

We apologize for being so strict, but our time has to be managed well. We just dont have the time to listen to more than 15 demos a week.
