Anyhow, did this edit some years ago and then forgot about it, but since it's just appeared on Matthew Burgess's splendid mix on Emotional Pop (http://www.emotionalpop.com/ep34-matthew-burgess-who-dares-to-love-forever) thought I'd re-up. Here you go.

Raashan Ahmad was on a euro tour some weeks ago and during his stop in Berlin we were talking music over dinner. I told Raashan that we are about to release an album with Ta-ku (which has happened in the meantime, check out the "DOWHATYOULOVE" album) and he asked me whether I knew that he recorded a full album with him some time ago during his last australian tour. No, I didn't know that and getting my hand on the album turned out to be not too easy as it couldn't be located for quite a while. In the end Raashan found it on an old hard drive and I was a fan of the album instantly. It's raw hip hop in the truest sense. None of the songs are longer then 3 minutes, quite some are around the 2 minute mark. Nothing but dope beats and raps with some unreleased Ta-ku instrumentals sprinkled in between. 

In celebration of both artists releases on Jakarta Records this year we figured it would be nice to give it away for free digitally and even better we decided that pressing it on wax would be nice too. Only 250 copies, numbered, no repress, the first 80 copies on clear wax.

“This mix is a reflection of the kind of artists I’m into and influenced by at the minute, and also a mirror of the sounds I’m currently attempting to experiment with. I don’t really agree with making a mix all one particular genre, and as you’ll hear I’ve infused sounds of House, Jungle, Grime and Garage. I’ve always been motivated to record mixes that flow in and out of certain moods; considering the fact all a mix really consists of is a series of tunes put together, I feel it’s my job to make it as interesting and aesthetically pleasing as possible.  A few of the tunes I dropped are actually some personal favourites of mine at the moment, such as ‘Obsession’ by Djrum, ‘Helter Skelter’ by Tessela, and of course the opening track ‘Help Yourself’ by Lokiboi, who I will be keeping my eye on a lot this year. The mix also features a currently unreleased track from myself, and a tune from my forthcoming debut release ‘Persist’ on Prism Tracks this summer, which will feature remixes from Artifact, GoldFFinch, Thefft and Basis! The general vibe of the mix is extremely bass and chord driven, and if all went to plan it should keep your head moving from start to finish, enjoy.”

A sophisticated little bastard of a DJ-mix

It’s about time for the fifth instalment of the Compost Black Label Series – unveiling some of the finest cuts in the label’s recent history in a versatile DJ mix crafted by Compost family member Thomas Herb, who built a strong reputation as a DJ when it’s about merging soul-injected house, techno and disco into a musical journey. Featuring winner tunes and remixes by Phreek Plus One, Osunlade, Woolfy, DJ T. or Rainer Trueby, Herb is also highlighting the work of new breed like Emil Seidel, Philipp Stoya and Emilie Nana, who all contributed high-quality tunes on the Black Label within the last year. Playing on top of the game since about one and a half decades, the Bob Beaman resident DJ, holding a steadily growing national and international schedule, is kicking things off with some proper nu-school vibes until he smoothly blends to balearic and disco influenced territories – then somehow he’s already in the middle of Holland Tunnel, the New Jersey styled tune by Muallem, opening our minds eye for the glittering skyline of Manhattan and our ears for this music called house - unfolding its purest grooves and energy within the mix. Keeping up the level, Thomas Herb subsequently heading the ship towards a middle west inspired direction, throwing in some decent rave signals without loosing his fluent, elegant style he carefully morphs into a old school Chicago vibe! The set is closing with Lukas Bohlender’s beautiful stringloaden emo-houser Club Chateâu. Apart from storytelling, quality and programming the tunes itself, Thomas Herb unmistakably put some extra focus on adding this kind of warm, handcrafted, dynamic live-vibe – and he succeeds big time with this sophisticated little bastard of a DJ-mix.

With Compost Records head honcho Michael Reinboth, Thomas Herb co-hosted the Compost Black Label Sessions clubnights held at Harry Klein and later at Bob Beaman for the last four years – sharing the decks with the likes of Jerome Sydenham, Deetron, Jay Shepheard, Osunlade, Agnés, John Talabot, Willie Graff, Kalabrese, Karizma, Heidi, Permanent Vacation, Move D & Thomas Meinecke, DJ T., Nuno Dos Santos and many more. With SHOW-B he’s teaming up for some well recieved productions and remixes from time to time – these smart guys also hosting the weekly radioshow Compost Black Label Sessions, which has been set up in order to spread the vibe of the label and correspondent clubnight to a wider audience.
