'Oh man, I’ve got good news all around! First of all, even if there wasn’t anything to celebrate, this mix from Heathered Pearls is absolutely superb! Almost two hours in length it navigates many favorite genres and artists represented by the Michigan based label, Ghostly International. Just look at this amazing tracklist! In 2009, Ghostly celebrated its 10 year anniversary as a label, with many shows across the globe. This year, the label is commemorating a decade of performances at Decibel Festival. The 10th Ghostly showcase at Decibel will feature live performances from Dauwd, Beacon, Lusine and Shigeto (Friday, September 27th at the Crocodile) and you know that I’ll be there all night!

Meanwhile, Jakub Alexander (that’s Heathered Pearls), a curator of the ISO50 blog and founder of Moodgadget Records, has just released a digital remix album, titled Loyal Reworks, featuring many great artists, including Sun Glitters, loscil, Markus Guentner and Lawrence. We first caught wind of this track from Amsterdam’s FS Green on a mix from Redbull 3style World Champion Four Color Zack, and had to reach out to sign it and give it a proper release!

FS might be best known for his massive hit with Major Lazer – Watch Out For This (Bumaye)!  ’Goolie Goolie’ is a booming trap music monster of a track, complete with a possessed child chanting and all – this one will infest your brain.

Lose the map.

The borders that crop up when people take genres seriously have never been all that useful.  With electronic music it has been especiallyfruitless to try and map the shifting sands; where does nu-proto-tech-gaze end and afro-schaffel-disco-wave begin?

The idea of taking an aimless road trip through music brings a little romance back to into the picture. We can leave hash tags, recommendation algorithms and linkbait articles like "The Top Ten Trip-Hop Songs About Lists" behind in some grey concrete terminal city industrial park. Get the car out onto the road and go where things take you. Pull your eyes up from the screen in your hand and lose the sterile GPS voice hectoring you about missed turns.  If you need to pass the slower cars by driving on the dirt median with your headlights off in the dead of night, so be it. It's OK to lose the map, you'll still get to where you need to be.

Some old easy listening using samples from a movie soundtrack scored by Ryuichi Sakamoto. It’s a genre shift but something I’ve loved experimenting around with since I heard the music of the late Nujabes. This track features some vocal work done by myself and my friend Sachiko. I’m very surprised at how much attention this got, especially with Call of Duty 4 montage videos haha. Enjoy!
