A song about being in a band that had some great times, but never 'hit the heights' and the mixed feelings this brings. Bit wistful, melancholic, but uplifting as well because not time is wasted. This started life as a conversation in a pub, when Dave the guitarist described playing a tape of the band in a traffic jam on Runcorn Bridge and had forgotten how good we sounded. the rest of it is pretty much autobiographical. We used to rehearse every Wednesday in the cellar at Rigby's pub on Dale Street in Liverpool and we used to play on the alleyway next to it on Beatles Day in August. Big John ran the pub and gave us the accolade of 'Best band in the town'  that day was in 1999. You might well think he would say that, wouldn't he, him being Gary the drummer's Dad, but you'd be mistaken there. He went for a walk around, scoped the other bands and gave us his considered view and  believe me, it meant a lot to me that he said that, because I knew he meant it. Prior to this, I was a  fully paid up busking fool. Before the band played any proper gigs, we went busking in various places to build confidence. The one in Chester was lucrative and we made enough to buy Pizzas at Winston's before coming home.

A fully paid up busking fool
I felt like I was living through
The movie of my life
I'll take Big John's accolade
We were the best band in the town that day

Ghost//Signals are a five-piece dark-pop indie band from Newcastle formed in 2015. Since 2018 the band have performed throughout the north east festival circuit at Hit the North Fest, Evo Emerging and Twisterella Festival as well as on the main stage at Lindisfarne Festival for BBC Introducing.

Their songs have been played on BBC Radio 1, BBC6 Music and championed by Nick Roberts on BBC Introducing while positive press from the likes of NARC. Magazine, God Is in the TV, XS Noize and Little Indie Blogs has seen the band cement a solid local following and sell out all of their most recent hometown headline shows.

To date Ghost Signals have released a number of singles, Hectoring in 2018, and 2019’s A Bag for Death and English Fiction, the latter of which saw a noticeable shift towards a more rounded and mature sound as they look to broaden their musical horizons. The band’s goth inflected live performances have won them many plaudits blending classic Smiths riffs and charming melodic interludes with fiendishly twisted but sharp-witted lyrics and has led to support slots with the likes of My Vitriol, The Chameleons, ACTORS, Glasvegas; but it is their recorded output that conjures a wealth of influences from White Lies, Slow Readers Club to Biffy Clyro.
