We're back. This time crawling back into the dark and cavernous (but welcoming) caves of dubstep.

To kick off our first bit of 140 this year, we're drafting in someone new to the Mercurial ranks. Off the back of some killer releases in 2020, we're super gassed to welcome KALEE to the Murky Crew.

The A side, 'Prodromal', is an intensely gritty experience. Industrial, alien and warped; dubstep that really pushes into the experimental realms. To be honest, this tune scared us a little bit, and we love it.

The B side, entitled 'Retrieval', completely turns the release on its head, comprised of twinkling, arpeggiated keys and skipping percussion, while still maintaining an aggressive, bass-driven rawness.

We really hope you like being (just a little bit) terrified.

There are three degrees of dancefloor pressure on the EP in the following order: 'Shake Your Flow' that have enough space for b’boy stances, 'Tremors' that makes pressure more obvious and dangerous, and finally 'White Eyes' that lefts no chances for all survivors. All these cuts works properly in right hands. 'Lost In Rave' without a doubt is the deepest cut on the EP that gives a listener great feelings of space and a rave trip. James Young steps up for his first release on QRUK with the Nagasaki EP, a dark and driving UKG cut that leans into the moodier edges of Garage and Speedy G. The North Wales-based producer has already made waves with House releases on labels like Smashin Trax and Pogo House, but this new EP sees him pushing into heavier, more dancefloor-focused territory. Nagasaki is packed with chopped-up drums, eerie textures and a tough low-end that hits hard.

On remix duties is Kabo Cana, returning to the label after making a big impression with his debut I DON'T UNDERSTAND. His take on Nagasaki flips the original into a more club-ready, 90s inspired roller full of sub pressure and tight percussion. It's another strong showing from the Manchester-based producer who's quickly becoming an exciting name in the new wave of UKG.
