"Memory for me is a tricky thing — a soup of emotion made of endless parts both real and imagined. This mix is a rumination on a theme found in my memory — hot pavement in the August sun, nutcrackers and backyard partying, sweating out an edible on the subway headed north, a handful of balloons let loose on a rooftop, and an accidental overload of research chemicals. Red White Blue and Green. White t-shirt and shorts, stoned to the bone, setting sun stuff."

I tried to smell the poison of leaving but

When I was thinking about this mix, my mind went to my iTunes/Apple Music library, which I’ve used actively since 2006, almost half my life. I remember sitting in a Los Angeles apartment back then, ripping CDs, rating the tracks I felt something for.

Now, scrolling back through songs I’ve loved feels like spinning a radio dial across my life, scanning through flashbulb memories. The music transports me to the state of mind I was in when I listened, however many years ago, but with the added perspective you get from seeing those moments concertina’d up. I can make out the shape of narrative arcs; follow threads that I thought in the moment I had lost; see where I was and know where I would go.

I tried to recreate that feeling with this mix: drawing tracks from across the span of my music library, outlining an emotional current that ebbs and flows through the music I resonate with. It’s tough to put into words (thankfully easier to put into a mix). It’s a sonic representation of an emotional journey that I’m still on. Sometimes I feel like it’s hard to know myself clearly, but I shouldn’t feel that way. I know my innermost self well, and maybe the journey is learning to trust that more.

FAUZIA is an artist of many moods. The UK talent moves from IDM to soul on her NTS Radio residency, while her club DJ sets reveal her love for '90s-style breaks, electro and bass-heavy sounds. In the studio, she explores her softer side through self-released homespun dub and ambient jungle.

In recent years, she's gravitated towards live performances. Her gossamer vocals, one of her strongest suits, cuts through live instrumentation like a hummingbird in agile flight. In 2020, the London-based talent told Mixmag that she was done being categorised as a "dance music" artist—and so far, she's succeeded. While she incorporates clubby touchstones into her work, there's a deep level of cross-genre knowledge and blending at play.

FAUZIA's RA podcast makes that clear. Free of any four-to-the-floor music, it moves from experimental jazz to orchestral melodies to R&B ballads for a thoughtful and introspective journey full of her own unreleased music that points towards her newer interest in composition. This is music to be felt, so let your guard down and let it wash over you.

This is my recording from Friday night Room 2, 12:30-2am, my first time being at the mythical Free Rotation. Playing one of the first sets & seeing the room, decor and the big bad subs of Room 2, years of fantastical lore and reality melded, I wanted to keep it sexy, wonky, trippy— imagining a psychic electric swamp and how one would levitate thru it... to the sky. No bpm trickery this time. Out to the heavenly bodies of the universe! ;)

The third offering in our mix series is a live recording of Priori and Cousin's dj set at Sustain Release 2024. Recorded on the last morning between 6am and 1pm on what was meant to be an ambient stage, it featured everything a 3 day festival closing set should. Eclectic picks, strange and emotional sounds, dubious transitions and a few feigned endings. Massive thanks to all the dancers, the Sustain staff (Aurora, Ash and everybody else who put their blood, sweat and tears into this), the music makers, the birds, the stars.

Jeremy Meadow is a San Francisco-based DJ playing ambient, dubtechno, and hypnotic techno. Originally from Oakland, his passion for electronic music began in his early teenage years with IDM and ambient techno. He began DJing in 2013 and currently plays at shows around the Bay Area, as well as at boutique music festivals. He also runs the new San Francisco-based ambient event series Intermission.

The theme of this mix is contrast, something that is present in many of my favorite places and artworks. The mix features a combination of glitch and jazz, two very disparate genres in many ways. I tried to accentuate the contrast between old and new, synthetic and organic, ambient and 4/4 throughout the mix while allowing the ideas to continuously flow together. The tracklist is emblematic of the collection I've acquired throughout my musical journey, and features many older songs from classic electronic artists I listened to a lot growing up such as Oval, Black Dog, Biosphere, Krudger & Dorfmeister, etc. I hope your listeners enjoy what I’ve put together.
