Kathryn Lounsbery is a Los Angeles-based pianist, music director, composer, and Green Bay Packers fan. She is a frequent performer, appearing in concerts, recitals, cabaret shows, and the occasional oddball gig where her digital piano might be placed on top of a hill in wine country. She has music-directed countless shows including “Little Shop of Horrors,” “The Fantasticks,” “The Gondoliers,” “Hairspray,” “Legally Blonde,” “Cabaret,” and most recently was the Pianist and Conductor for the world premiere of “Falling For Make Believe” at the Colony Theatre in Burbank, CA. She also collaborates frequently with Broadway and pop star Frenchie Davis.
 
As a comedian, Kathryn has appeared at The Laugh Factory, The Improv, The Comedy Store, 54 Below, and The Hollywood Fringe Festival. She has accompanied many improv groups including Off the Wall, LA’s oldest improv group. Her musical comedy videos have been shown in film festivals across the U.S. and around the world including New Zealand, Mumbai, Australia, and all of Europe.
 
For seven years, she was the Keyboard Pop Editor for Alfred Music Publishing, the world’s largest educational music publisher. She had several works published through Alfred including the Easy Piano Selections from “Sweeney Todd” for which the arrangements were personally approved by Stephen Sondheim.
 
As an educator she has served on the faculty of Sonoma State University and is currently on the faculty at The American Musical and Dramatic Arts (AMDA) Academy in Hollywood, CA where she serves as Music Director, Vocal Coach, and Group Piano Professor.
 
She has composed cabaret songs, theme songs, and hard core raps.
 
She grew up steeped in culture. Her mother was a concert manager at the Pabst Theatre and later ran the Skylight Opera Theatre in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Her father played French horn in The Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. As a result, Kathryn was a theater rat, fortunate to meet the likes of Yo Yo Ma, Philip Glass, Dave Brubeck, Ton Koopman, and the Modern Jazz Quartet. She formed her first band “HOT TAR IN THE STREETS” at age 5 with best friend Oliver Schowalter-Hay. HTITS morphed into “THE MODERN JAZZ TRIO” when trumpeter Dave Jorgensen (now of the wildly successful band “Blind Pilot”) joined. At age 13, she performed in a master class with acclaimed concert pianist Yefim Bronfman who praised her interpretation of Beethoven. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Piano Performance with Honors from the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she studied under Professor Martha Fischer. While at Madison she won the Beethoven Competition and was also the Grand Prize Winner in the state-wide Harold Levin Competition, open to all instrumentalists and vocalists. She received her Master’s Degree in Keyboard Collaborative Arts from the University of Southern California where she studied under Dr. Alan Smith. She attended USC on a full scholarship and served as a teaching assistant for their opera program.
 
Kathryn currently lives in West Hollywood, CA and spends entirely too much money dining out.
