Opilec Music have looked back to look forward once again, and for the next release re-visit an absolute Italo disco cult classic in the form of Clay Pedrini’s ‘New Dream’, which in original form on the Sensation Records vinyl from 1984 is worth a pretty penny on discogs.

Of course this is a fully licenced release rather than an illegal bootleg, and has seen label head I-Robots, Dynamicron, Craxi Disco and Slicer all re-work the track in subtle and sensitive ways.

Despite releasing only this one single, Pedrini proved himself to be one of the shining stars of the Italo scene with his unprecedented charisma and coordination. Unfortunately, his career was cut short by a severe case of whiplash but his fusion of live music with electronic trickery has more than stood the test of time.

First up is I-Robots’ Reconstruction (previously available on the We Are Opilec Vol. II compilation), which stays close and true to the original, simply removing some of the more dated elements and bringing them up to today with some classic touches.
The result is a spangled, clap laced disco strider that will help lift dancefloors off into the stratosphere.

Next up is someone who has remixed on the label before and runs his own Los Grandes label in Madird, Dynamicron. He strips back some of the synths and lays down a rooted disco groove before embellishing it with some molten synth stabs, uplifting vocals and plenty of percussive drama.

London based Italian producer Craxi Disco (who has also appeared on We Are Opilec Vol. I) goes next with his Rework. It’s a more laid back affair but still drives forward and sees the vocals getting plenty of filter and vocoder treatment. Washes of synth and jarring drums bring plenty of tension and texture to the remix and it is a fine alternative version indeed.

Finally, Argentinian disco lover and revered re-editer Slicer gets his hands on the track and removes some of the harshness, which allows the arpeggiated electronic melodies room to breath and soar even more.
Plenty of tooting chords bring oodles of colour and future imagery and the vocals really become the focal point.

This is another fantastic and lovingly compiled package from Opilec Music that brings Clay Pedrini’s already classic New Dream right up to date.

Pierre-Claver Akendengué (born April 25, 1943) is a musician and composer from Gabon. In 1997, he received his country's "Prix d'excellence" at the Africa Music awards in Libreville, honoring his body of work. He also serves as a cultural advisor for the government of Gabon.

Born on the island of Awuta, which is located just off the coast from Port-Gentil, Akendengué went to school in Port-Gentil, then studied psychology at the University of Caen in France during the 1960s. While in France, he met singer Mireille, who encouraged his musical interests.

In 1974, Akendengué recorded his first album, Nandipo, which consisted of songs of his own composition, sung in French and Nkomi, accompanied by guitar, women choir, bass and the percussion of Nana Vasconcelos. He later set to music poems by P. E. Mondjegou, such as "Le Chant du Coupeur d'Okoumé" ("The Song of the Okoumé Cutter"). Returning to Gabon, he studied solfeggio and plainchant at a Catholic college, and presented spectacles showcasing traditional Gabonese forms in a concert setting.

In 1986, he received a doctorate from the University of Paris for his study of religion and education among the Nkomi.

It is based on - and largely inspired by - the mysterious rework played by Palms Trax and Job Jobse lately.
