It was an incredible Mix of Hip Hop, Swingbeat, 70's Rare Grooves an new British Soul. It was my strongest musical influence at the time. In the early 90ies I saw concerts of Incognito, The Brand New Heavies, Raw Stylus und many more in Berlin and also talked to a young UK DJ in 1990 by the name of Gilles Peterson, who played the fresh Talkin Loud sound from the turntables. This is my tribute live mix with the sound of that era to give you a taste of the timeless positive vibe of the time. Feel the Vibe! "

Celebrating the 75th birthday of Mr Roy Ayers with this mix, showcasing some of my favourite tracks from his slightly lesser known material… Well, I mean compared to tracks like Everybody 
Loves The Sunshine, Searching, We Live In Brooklyn, Running Away, Love Will Bring Us Back Together…

I also hear new stuff that I hadn’t noticed before when I listen to his music - the track with Jack Wilson that opens the mix up is so heavy and cosmic for its time, and I’d forgotten about the track with Wayne Henderson! There are so many great albums out there including the 2 Virgin Ubiquities BBE put out... We could devote a whole week of radio programmes to Roy, his archive is so large… 

He is the key to all things between jazz, soul, disco and hip hop…. Thank you roy for all the music...

Roy Ayers 75th Birthday Mix

So here’s my tribute to the mighty mighty one, Mr Maurice White, who sadly passed away on February 4 of this year. He left us an incredible treasure trove of music that has shaped the way I live my life!

I avoided the really obvious hits that you can hear everywhere and went for my personal faves, and a solid dose of the music that went on to shape the unique sound of Earth Wind and Fire from his early years working with two great mentors to him, Ramsey Lewis and Charles Stepney.

I got so much pleasure recording this - I hope you enjoy as much as I did!

Where to start? Herbie Hancock is a living icon, not just in Jazz music, but also as a cultural personality. His musical cannon spans 60 years and surpasses nearly all benchmarks. In-fact, he sets the benchmarks. Delving into his discography suddenly makes one realize how incredibly versatile and prolific he is. From playing straight ahead jazz with Miles Davis in the 60’s, to constructing Headhunters (the 2nd highest selling ‘Jazz’ album of all time, after Miles’ Kind of Blue) Herbie refuses to settle into one style. The winner of more than 16 Grammys, composer of film soundtracks, collaborator with the up and coming and the trad masters; put simply Hancock is a genius. We’ve attempted to pay tribute to his astounding back catalogue by putting together a selection from our collective Hancock LPs, and even though we only touch the surface, you’ll find a fairly broad representation of his music within. There’s enough material to do another 30 of these mixes!
